You Can Charge A Tesla By Towing It, But You Probably Shouldn't

A Model X owner in Norway towed a Model S and recorded the whole thing, with the latter car shown to be charging via the re-generation effect in the process

The official line from Tesla is that you should never tow one of its cars with wheels on the ground as “damage caused by transporting is not covered by the warranty,” but if you do, you get a little extra charge in your battery.

Leave the powertrain on (again, something you’re not supposed to do when being recovered), and the regeneration effect of the motors tops up the cells.

In this interesting experiment which involved a Model X towing a single motor 85 Model S in Norway, the latter car gained 7.2kWh over 6.6 miles. It might have been a little more had the car been a dual motor Model S, or if the Model X was able to drive faster - as only a short rope was used, the owner wasn’t able to travel fast enough to get the maximum 60kW regeneration.

I can imagine people tandem towing their Teslas to charge it lol.

Ultimate trip range when having more than one Tesla.

Why not use hellcats to tow the tesla? It is charged by a supercharger, literally!

Evomills (Outrun)

Step 1. Aquire 2 Teslas
Step 2. Attach a rope between them
Step 3. Swap over every so often
Step 4. …………….
Step 5. Infinite charge
Step 6. Profit?

Will come very handy when doing a roadtrip in lets say, two towing capable Model Xs…

The X (pulling) uses around 6.5 kWh when the S gains around 2.8 kWh… The distance covered was 4,3 km (Over a time of 1 minute between 1:00 and 2:00 for a constant speed @50km/h)

In that situation the X has a mileage of:
100kWh Battery / 6,5 kWh = 15,38
15,38 * 4,3km = 66km (41 Miles)

The Tesla S will have the same weigth to tow + the double motors of the X witch CAN result in more resistance but doens’t have to. (4 wheel drive will do more engine braking?) But in the best situation it will have the same range. So in total you can drive 132 km (82 Miles)

Normally (as seen on the dash) the X (90kWh model) will use 320wH/km and the S(70kWh model) 250wH/km that results in a range of:….
Model X: 281 Miles
Model S: 280 Miles :D

The range will fall to just 29% so with towing you will waste 71% of the energy

so if we tow a tesla with another tesla and when we change the cars’ positions when the towing one’s batteries are dead, do we have infinite and free charge ?? :D

Scientist managed to produce free energy for a fraction of a second and called it succes. Towing a car with another car with wind resistance and with friction resistances etc….yeah I think they managed to make a perpetuum mobile. :D

No, get a dodge CHARGER so you can CHARGE your tesla.

Perpetual motion… drive a Tesla towing a Tesla. By the time the tow vehicle’s battery dies, the other Tesla’s battery will have a charge……

Someone needs to take two Model X’s and put them facing away from each other. Attach them using a regualar trailer hitch and a joint, put a small generator in the back of one and you could travel the entie country lol. When one gets low. Just park, get in the other on and turn around. Turn the seats down on one one of them and throw in a matress and youve got an all electric RV. (99% joking lol)
