You Can Now Buy The Land Rover Discovery As A Van
The Land Rover you see above may look like every other current-gen Discovery, but don’t be fooled. It even looks like a regular Disco when you get in the driver’s seat, until you turn around and see nothing.
That’s because this particular Landie is the new Discovery Commercial, and in place of the second and third rows of seats, there’s a massive, 1856 litre “hard-wearing” load bay. It’s separated from the driver by a metal guard, to prevent any loose items becoming intimately acquainted with the windscreen under hard braking.
The load space is 1635mm long, 939mm high and 1411mm wide. Figures which will be largely meaningless to you if you’re not into vans. But to put them in context, a short wheelbase Ford Transit gives you a 2582mm long, 1430mm high and 1430 wide bay.
So in other words, quite a bit less than a proper van, but a decent amount of space nonetheless. Plus, you have the benefit of owning something a little more desirable than a white box which will inevitably end up with profanities written in the dirt it accumulates in the winter months.
Want one? The range starts with the £48,695, 236bhp SD4 in ‘S’ trim, and is topped by
a V6 TD6 ‘HSE’ for £59,995. So it’s not cheap, but then neither is the Mercedes X-Class - another posho commercial vehicle effectively vying for the same slice of pie.
The Discovery Commercial is on sale now, with first deliveries taking place during the second quarter of 2018.
