You Can Now Buy A Mercedes-AMG GT For Less Than £80k

Our used car find of the day isn't exactly cheap, but it is - in relative terms - great value for money...
You Can Now Buy A Mercedes-AMG GT For Less Than £80k

A couple of weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to spend a whole day sampling the majority of the Mercedes-AMG GT range. And I liked all of them - the only trouble is even the cheapest is way beyond my means.

But on the used market…I still have no hope, sadly. Depreciation is starting to chip away at AMG GT values however, to the point where the earliest examples have dipped below £80,000. If you have that kind of cash to blow on a shouty Mercedes though, it’s worth stretching the budget a bit further, to get a GT S like this one.

Do that, and you’ll get - amongst other things - a fancy electronically-controlled rear differential, and a more potent version of AMG’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 putting out 503bhp. Granted, its £86,940 price tag may not sound like a dramatic drop from the original £110,495 charged for the S, especially considering that two years have passed since this first drove away from the dealership, but it’s loaded with expensive options.

The highlights include a panoramic glass roof (just don’t think about the weight implications), a Burmester sound system, and - if you’re not into music so much - the AMG performance exhaust system. Just imagine the angry pops and crackles…

It may not have the much improved steering brought on by the GT range’s recent update, nor the fancy active aero, but it’s just as quick: 0-62mph takes 3.8 seconds, and it’ll keep on pulling until 193mph.

If you had £90,000 to spend on a used sports car, would you go for this, or something else?

90k for a sports car? Add 5k and I’ll get an Ultima Evo

Pretty sure the “regular” Ultima Evolution Coupe is even less than that - the £95k price is for the 1020 model or something. Oh well, more lap records for you…

I like the GT, but I would still buy an SLS.

The SLS has the wildness and flashiness the GT is lacking.
Plus, SLS sounds like a spy code name

A used SLS is £200k :/. It’s too freaking good!

You can get a used Audi R8 from about 2014 or 2015 for £90k. That would probably be my pick.

Meanwhile SLS AMGs are £200k and rising…

Hmm. I don’t think I’d be getting AMG GT. For 90k Probably a GT350 and some money left over.

I don’t plan on drinking, so I guess I’m off to sell both my kidneys!

Pretty sure alcohol is processed by the liver. Kidneys just make your pee.

If you don’t plan on drinking you’ll probably die after two days
