If you can’t quite afford a 918 but will do anything to own one, how about this fine example as a solution? It’s up for auction with a current bid of $100,000, but as you can see, it’s not exactly in the best state. That’s because the car - number 830 of 918 produced - is up for auction from salvage company Copart, and looks to have been involved in a hefty smash.

It’s missing much of the front end, the rear clamshell is in bits, and you don’t have to be an engineer to know the right rear wheel should not look like that. The “primary damage” is amusingly listed as “all over”, and there’s also “secondary damage” listed for the “undercarriage”.

It doesn’t look like the original owner of the car had much use out of it before binning it either, because the car is displaying just 92 miles on the clock….

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the auction to see what the car goes for when bidding closes on 23 March. Post your predictions in the comments!

That’s quite a good value, at least by judging from what i see on the photos, the interior is ok, if the engine is ok and the chassis isn’t bent or bent in a fixable way, it could be possible to rebuild it for something like I don’t know; maybe 250K, maybe less, depends on the damage of the electronics and the hybrid unit, and have a 918 for let’s say +350K, if I had the money I think I would buy it

Use it for parts. $100k is a lot for parts sure, but they’re crazy good parts.

You could probably buy it and send it to Porsche to fix for less than the price of the car, plus it will only appreciate so not a terrible project.
