You Can Spend £595 On A Bag With Mercedes-AMG GT R Tyre Marks

Is the dream of owning an AMG GT R still a little too far away? Bring it closer (sort of) with a wildly expensive canvas bag that's intentionally stained with genuine GT R tyre marks

A Mercedes-AMG GT R is an expensive purchase. Sure, it’s one that many of us dream of being able to make one day, and maybe a few of us will actually make it happen. But for the rest? Well, we can always fall back on this: a selection of designer bags made with fabric upon which an AMG GT R has done a cheeky burnout.

German designer Destroy vs Beauty has teamed up with AMG to create a range of nine bespoke bags that each feature a technically unique application of, presumably, the GT R’s standard Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber.

The official collaboration, called the BurnOut Collection, features a newly-developed fabric that is extremely resistant to tearing while happily soaking up the black imprint of the sticky Michelin.

To make them, the fabric is placed flat in front of a GT R’s wheel before a driver then, presumably, absolutely clobbers the throttle. That causes the tortured tyre to dig into the fabric and leave its mark ready for the rest of the manufacturing process. Each BurnOut piece is made so that the tyre’s work is as obvious as possible, running centrally either vertically or, for the wider bags, horizontally. There’s a leather AMG badge with red stitching, as a finishing touch.

The range starts with the €179 (£157) folding ‘Cash Men Wallet’ (above) and the €199 (£174) ‘Big Spender’ purse, moving up through the likes of the €479 (£419) ‘Burlington Bag’ shoulder/handbag, the €529 (£463) ‘Laptop Bag’ and the €579 (£507) ‘Speedweek Bag.’

At the most expensive end is the largest option, the ‘Weekender’ bag, a holdall big enough for, obviously, a weekend away in your GT R. Or your Ford Fiesta. Whatever. It’ll cost you €679, which at the time of writing is £595 at basic Google-sourced live exchange rates. Ironic, really: at this price you’d be terrified of getting it dirty…

This isn’t the first time Destroy vs Beauty has teamed up with Mercedes to create ‘burnout bags.’ Five years ago the two brands enjoyed a similar collaboration with the help of a CLS63.

People won’t be impressed by this. They will just think you have a a bag that’s been run over and you’re too tight fisted to replace it.
