You Could Own This 500bhp Viper V10-Engined Muscle Truck For The Price Of An Eco Hatchback
In 2004, Dodge went a little—okay a lot—bonkers. We’re not sure whose idea it was to drop the Viper’s 500bhp, 8.3-litre V10 into a Ram pickup truck, but we’re grateful all the same. To this day, the 154mph Ram SRT-10 holds the title as the world’s fastest pickup truck, largely due to the fact nobody has even tried to build such a wild pickup since the snake-bitten Ram was retired in 2006.
Why is that? Muscle trucks have always been polarising vehicles in the performance world—either you think the concept is as stupid as a jet fighter made out of hummus, or as epic as a Pink Floyd concert on the moon. Regardless, there’s no denying the Ram’s performance: 0-60 in five seconds, quarter-mile in 13.5 seconds, and the aforementioned top speed that puts it in the same realm as many German sport sedans. Granted, it gets nine miles per gallon and it’s absurdly expensive to maintain, but for those who yearn for a practical Viper, this is the only game in town.
This particular Yellow Fever 2005 Ram SRT-10 is listed on eBay in Spokane, Washington USA. If the quality photography isn’t convincing enough for potential buyers, the owner also reports this V10 super truck has a “150 shoot noss,” which we can only assume is redneck for nitrous oxide.
It’s also listed as having a $2000 exhaust system, a $700 Viper alarm system, four new Nitto tyres, and “$1000 dealer tuning,” whatever that means. It’s done 72,000 miles, and if the photos are anything to go by, it fits in very well in a fenced-in backyard next to a swingset. The owner claims to have “2 same car,” which is why he’s selling this one. The nitrous, exhaust system and "dealer tuning" also suggest it’s been babied its whole life. Well, probably babied. If by ‘babied’ you mean driven to within an inch of its life at every opportunity.
$18,000 isn’t chump change, but for something with enough horsepower and torque to alter the Earth’s rotation upon launch, it could be worth investigating. If you have the cash and means to fill the tank on a daily basis, you could have a 500bhp Dodge Viper’s heart, wrapped up in pickup practicality… all for the cost of a new compact hatchback.
