There’s no such thing as a subtle Lamborghini Diablo, but there’s a clear sliding scale of lunacy when you look at the different versions of the supercar. And at the pointest end of that scale is the GT.

For this limited-run model, Lamborghini replaced the already lairy bodywork with all-new carbonfibre panels, to dramatic effect. We have huge vents and intakes, the whole rear bumper swapped for one giant diffuser, and - our favourite bit - a roof scoop. Because it’s science fact that roof scoops are awesome.

The standard car’s four-wheel drive system was ditched, meaning the V12 powered the rear wheels and the rear wheels only, via a five-speed manual gearbox. The engine wasn’t left alone either: displacement was bumped from 5.7 to 6.0 litres, with fancy new parts like titanium con rods and a lighter crankshaft added into the mix.

The result? 575bhp, and one hell of a soundtrack - Diablo GTs came with a ruder exhaust poking out under that massive new diffuser.

Lamborghini only made 80 of these cars, each sold with a carbonfibre briefcase. Neat.

The example we’re looking at today has - sadly - barely been used since it left the factory at Sant’Agata Bolognese. It’s covered just 276km, and we get the sneaking suspicion that figure won’t increase much under the new owner.

It’s due to go under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s May Monaco auction, with an upper estimate of €875,000 ($1,056,203, £768,000). And yes, the briefcase is included…

I really don’t understand why it’s sad it wasn’t used. I hope this thing stays in a garage until the end of time.
