A Young Fan Is Suing Ferrari After It Took Over His Facebook Page

21-year-old Sam Wassem has filed a lawsuit against Ferrari after they removed his admin rights from his fan page, but the company is counter-suing

As far as legal wrangles go, this is an interesting one. Sammy Wassem started a Ferrari Facebook fan page when he was 15, which eventually grew to have over 500,000 followers. In 2009, however, Wassem was forced to hand over administration to Ferrari itself, with the company citing "legal issues."

Sam was allowed to continue posting on the page and did so for another four years, at the same time requesting financial incentives for his work, which weren't given. Ferrari eventually chose to remove Wassem's admin rights entirely. This has led Wassem and his father Olivier to bring a lawsuit against Ferrari, claiming copyright infringement for the page being taken over, and for 5500 hours of unpaid work put into the page over the last four years. The damage? 10 million Swiss francs (£6.8m).

It doesn't end there, either. Ferrari is now counter-suing, claiming the misuse of the company branding to advertise non-Ferrari merchandise.

We'll be very interested to see how this one pans out.
