DIY: #BMW M30 Valve Adjustment and Crush Washer Replacement
Video tutorial on how to adjust the valves on a BMW M30, along with crush washer replacement which is towards the end of the video. Out of adjustment will cause engine ticking, poor performance, poor throttle response, idling issues, and poor fuel economy. This particular vehicle I am working with here today is a 1984 BMW 733i, equipped with a 3.2L inline 6 cylinder. A similar procedure may apply to other BMW engines of this generation as well. Disassembly procedure may vary between vehicles, as I know this engine was found in the 5 and 6 series as well.

Valvework like this is exactly why I love the GM 60° v6. The procedure for any valve work requires torquing the rocker arms to 14lb ft which equate to in layman’s terms to as tight as they will go. And it doesn’t differentiate if the pistons are tdc or bdc. Can’t get much more user friendly than that. Some of these older ohc engines give me a headache just listening to the adjustment/rebuild procedures
I’ve never worked on a GM 60 degree V6. But I can’t say this was hard, just takes patience and I find it therapeutical lol. While taking video and having to search for tools, it took about 4-5hrs. If I had a bit more room so everything could be in a tool box and I didn’t have to do video, this could be easily done in a couple hours.
