I sold the Peugeot 306 GTi-6

For some reason, selling the 306 has been the saddest car to sell - even more so than the R34.
Maybe it’s because of its practicality, or maybe the sheer enjoyment of driving the car on some backroads. Unfortunately I was not able to get the car onto a racetrack.

Due a change in jobs I am unable to look after the car, and so I listed it for sale on Boxing Day.
Just last night I was contacted by an interested buyer and by midday today he had deposited half the asking price.

That’s just 3 days it was for sale before a buyer was locked in and the advertisement withdrawn.

Yesterday was a throwback to a time when I’d just bought the car and took it for a drive to South Head as an initial test. This time I had a 306 following and the journey was now 2-hours longer than last time.

Below are the images I used for the advertisement.

Contrary to popular opinion, I might go out and say the 306 was more fun to drive than the R34.
It combines an agile platform with unbelievable stability and acceleration comparable to VTEC. The weighted steering gives a nostalgic feel while also offering immense high-speed controllability. Cornering is aided by passive rear-wheel-steering in combination with a short wheelbase at the magic ratio of 1.6:1.
At the hands of an experienced driver, the comparatively low torque/horsepower is not an issue.

The only recommendation I would make to improve on the 306 GTi-6 is to add speed-sensitive steering as parking is a bit daunting at first.

The buyer did mention that he has one with a blown engine, which did get me thinking…

Maybe when I get back to NZ I could buy it and perform a B-Series swap. But those are just pipe-dreams.
