I tend to hate long ass explanation videos.
But engineering explained? Idk, doesn’t bother me for some reason.

Just a couple of thoughts from a mechanic in Australia, where we’d refer to that more as a ‘rev tune’.
Good explanation, but I think it may have been simplified a little, I have always noticed a car run better after a longer drive at highway speeds, I think it is more to do with the temperature at the sparkplug cleaning it off, and also the rise in cylinder pressure and speed to work the piston rings against the cylinder wall harder, and possibly even the extra blowby push any loosened deposits into the crankcase.
Whether I’m right or wrong, I think there is more to it than your excellent explanation alone.

I think the “Italian Tune Up” myth/not-myth comes from people stomping the hell out of their cars and seeing the black smoke coming out of the tail pipe at close to redline engine speeds. That’s where the “burning off the carbon” comes from, even though most of it just seems to be random deposits, and possible blow-by of engine components.
