M43 316i

Hey guys. Is there any mods to make the m43 a little more gutsy but keeping reliability. Where should i start?
I juat want a bit more power for overtaking on the highway and such.

A swap to something else is the best idea. Intake you shouldnt mess with, since bmw makes those pretty good. Maybe exhaust upgrades but that wont make the car a lot more powerful

I was also thinking of exhaust and since it’s an m43 i can put 318i injectors and 318i software. Then it will basically be a 318i or am i missing something?

Well the injectors etc. would work I guess, but the software im not entirely sure. The main difference between the 316i (M43B16) and 318i (M43B18) is the fact that the cilinders are larger so you wont change that with those mods

If you really want more power but still a quite reliable 4banger than you might want to swap your engine to a (M44B19 which had 140hp) pretty good for overtaking and such. Youll need to change your rear brakes too. If possible preferable the whole rearaxle

A BMW employee told me the only difference is injectors and software 😂 but i didn’t entirely trust him though.

nonono… the difference is bore… 1600ccm and 1800ccm. The only mod you can do is an engine swap. The intake is relatively good, exhaust manifold and exhaust are freeflowing enough for the 1600ccm engine… you might get a slightly better throttle response… but powergains are a no go. First thing I would do is change fuel filter, Spark plugs and restore it to former glory. From there maybe something more. But a 316i is a 316i until you put another engine in it … and buying another car is cheaper than that.

BMW told me i have a 318i engine that has been detuned…

I’m looking for the same kind of upgrade. I have the M43-b19 with 105 hp. Apparently it goes up to 118 hp and wikipedia says the difference is a DISA valve. Going to look more in to this later tonight or later this week
