Bonnet won't open!

Hi all,

Recently I tried to put some screen wash in my car but I noticed my bonnet wouldn’t open. The latch that you pull inside the car has no resistance but when I looked the cable is still attached. I assume it’s something to do with the latch that actually connects to the bonnet.

I took it to my local garage and they said there was nothing that they could do. My concern is this means I can’t put oil or screen wash in my car so I think it’ll fail it’s mot.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to how I could fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

(Assuming the grill just pops out like the MK7 grill does) You could try fishing a stiff wire through the grill to the latch and try to catch the lever with it, opening it that way. Or you could try to remove your whole front bumper and carefully lift it up while you grab the latch (you can’t fully take it off without popping the bonnet open and removing the fasteners)

Thanks Patrick. Theres no way i can actually get the bumper off without opening the bonnet so i might have to try and catch the latch with something.

Yep try taking off the front bumper to get to the latch and use a coathanger or something to catch it

I physically can’t get the bumper off as the bonnet won’t open at all. I can lift it slightly so i might try and get a coat hanger in there.
