0w16 oil? Could I use 0w20 instead?
Hey guys! Long story short I bought a Camry instead of an 86… I recently noticed that the oil cap says 0w16 which to me seema pretty thin and that’s a hard find unless I buy from either Toyota or ravenol which is very expensive. I haven’t seen any major oil brands selling this oil grade/weight and the most similar is 0w20.
Would I hurt my engine by using 0w20 instead of 0w16?

It wouldnt hurt but some cars require specific oil specs and certs.
Alright i was worried because someone told me that it could mess up my seals
They already said that this day will come. I would stick with 0w16. You just happen to be the first group of cars that use that oil
Stick with what Toyota says to put in it. That’s a strange viscosity though.
Thats exactly what i thought as i had never seen that viscosity before
I’d stick with the required stuff. I’ve had engine lights come up on several vehicles. When I pulled the code it said incorrect oil viscosity.
What vehicles did that code come up I’ve never seen that code before?
I doubt it but it’s best to follow recommendation
I guess I will follow it, the manual says that if 0w16 is unavailable to use 0w20 but to go back to 0w16 on the next change

I would use 0w40!
0w16 and 0w20 is as thin as water at 100°C
They use this oil only for low fuel consuption.
Check the manual to see if there are any alternatives.
Using 0W- 20 is only recommended if you don’t have access to 0W-16. You may lose up to 7MPG and you should go back to 16 weight at your next oil change. So in a pickle you can but avoid if possible.
This grade of oil has been around 20 plus years mobil1 ,petronas, tripel QX it expensive but very good. Anyone with a hybrid will have been using thus oil for a long time. Easy to buy
