The generations of Ford Focus performance cars.

When you hear Ford Focus you usually think of a normal family car. But the Focus is more sporty than you think. It had great handling as standard, but Ford wanted to make more of it.

Mk1 Focus ST170

Ford decided that Focus needs a bit of a flavor. They took the 2.0 N/An engine and boosted it to 170bhp. They also improved the suspension and the car was a great pocket rocket. It came as a wagon aswell. The ST stands for Sport Technology and 170 for BHP

Mk1 Focus RS

After the success of the ST170, Ford decided to treat themselves with a new model. The RS stands for Rallye Sport and it was a road legal version of the Focus rally car. The RS had the same engine as the ST170 but it received two turbos and a very clever diff. The RS was the fastest hot hatch at that time.

Mk2 Focus ST

One of Ford’s main engineers for the Focus was an Audi Quattro fan. He loved the 5 cylinder rally engine and he wanted to put a 5 cylinder in the Focus ST. Focus ST still stands for Sport Technology and hell it was smart as hell. It had adjustable steering, braking, and throttle. Ford didn’t have the time or the money for the engine development so they took the Volvo engine and put it in the ST. The result is amazing. It was fast and fun.

Mk2 Focus RS

After the Ford made the ST, the RS was the only thing left to do. It had the same engine, however, it was boosted to 300bhp. It was a fast. Really fast.

Mk2 Focus RS500

To celebrate the RS, Ford made the RS500. Only 500 were made, and you can only buy them in Black. Since it was made it has gained in value. It had the same Volvo engine, but now it had 345bhp. It was an FWD monster, and to date, it’s the most powerfull fwd car ever made.

Mk3 Focus ST

After the mk2 Ford needed a new start. It would be the mk3 Focus. They made the ST model. It comes with a wagon option, a 2.0 petrol or for the first time a 2.0 diesel. The diesel has 185 bhp. 1 more than the Golf GTD. And the petrol version has 260 bhp. 10 more than the Golf GTi.

Mk3 Focus RS.

Well the mk3 ST was a big hit for Ford. They decided to make an RS version of the car. Also, it’s the first Focus to get the AWD system. Don’t be fooled tho, unlike other hot hatches it send more power to the back than to the front, and the AWD system is one of the best in the world. It has 2.3 EcoBoost engine from the Mustang, now boosted to the power output of 350 bhp. Also, it has a drift mode developed by Ken Block. It really proves that Focus is more than an ordinary car.

Now I’m not really sure about this, but I don’t think that the Mk1 RS had two turbos

Really fascinated with Focus! Also heard that a Moly-Graphene oil additive (like the Everglide EGS) is perfect for this! Can’t imagine how powerful it would be using a nano formula. Thanks for the write-up!

The mk3 is basically a sleeper: it doesn’t look much aggressive and yoi can pull out burnout and smokey tyres while beating other car out of green light. Nice review
