#FightClub The Mercedes AMG GT R or the Jaguar F-Type SVR, which is the ultimate hardcore sports car? Lets find out!

So here we are again with the F-Type SVR that was pipped to the post in it’s comparison post by the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S. However a new rival has emerged from the shadows, the Mercedes AMG GT R a more powerful, lighter and greener (No not economically!) version of the AMG GT-S so as promised I said that I would compare these two sports cars on steroids! So without further ado, welcome to fight club, population me, you and two angry ‘hardcore’ sports cars

Warning this blog contains lots of violence, power and a jack hammer AMG soundtrack, reader discretion is advised

Engines

So the normal variants of these cars have 503HP and 542HP which are very respectable amounts, however these ‘hardcore’ versions need more which is exactly what both manufacturers have done showing that these two cars are very close in terms of performance figures.

F-Type SVR
The standard F-Type is available with many engines each one of them sounding as dirty and god like as each other. For the SVR Jaguar placed it’s 5.0L supercharged from the F-Type R however nearly every aspect of the engine has been turned up to 11!
The Numbers:
Horsepower: 567HP
Top Speed: 200MPH
Torque: 516lb-ft
0-60: 3.5 seconds

AMG GT R
The standard GT-S uses a 4.0L twin turbo V8, the GT R also uses the same engine however it has been given a pair of new turbo’s which has boosted the performance dramatically, so the SVR better watch out!
The Numbers:
Horsepower: 577HP
Top Speed: 198MPH
Torque: 513lb-ft
0-60: 3.6 seconds

Drivetrains

Now, both of these cars are more powerful than their normal counterparts, so naturally we need some sort of assistance to help out with delivering the power to the wheels.

F-Type SVR
The SVR is the ultimate F-Type therefore it has to have the best base for it to be built upon which is why a AWD system has been stolen from the F-Type R AWD and some other familiar items are too.
Gearbox: 8-speed automatic (Tweaked by SVO to give quicker gear changes)
Weight Distribution: 50:50

AMG GT R
The AMG GT R is also the ultimate expression of what Mercedes and AMG believe is a road and track munching sports car so the GT R has been on a slight diet and lost 15KG which may not sound like a lot but when you have 577HP you’ll certainly feel it! As usual you can expect the power to be delivered to the rear, which it is.
Gearbox: 7- speed double clutch automatic (Also tweaked by AMG to give quicker changes)
Weight Distribution: 47:53

Suspension

As these sports cars are meant for the road and the track the suspension has been tweaked by their own specialists to give make sure that these ‘hardcore’ versions turn, brake and steer faster, harder and better than their softer versions the F-Type R and the AMG GTS

F-Type SVR
To create the ultimate F-Type the SVR borrows most of its suspension components from the previous ‘top of the range’ F-Type R AWD however they have been tweaked by Jag’s SVO department to give a more sporty feel.
Suspension: Stiffened Anti roll bars and dampers from the F-Type R AWD, the springs are the same but rear knuckles have been made stiffer to give more mechanical grip.
Steering: Electronically assisted power steering with torque vectoring.
Brakes: Carbon ceramic brakes all round with 6 piston calipers at the front and 4 piston calipers at the rear.

AMG GT R
GT R borrows lots of it’s suspension components from the AMG GT-S as you would expect, however you would certainly expect them to tweak the suspension, steering and brakes to make sure that AMG GT R is crazy fast through the corners!
Suspension: New adaptive coilovers with thicker anti roll bars most of the suspension components are forged from aluminium to keep the weight down.
Steering: Electronically assisted power steering with three drive modes (Normal, Sport and Sport+)
Brakes: Carbon ceramic disks all round with 6 piston calipers at the front and 4 piston calipers at the rear

Styling

F-Type SVR
When Jaguar revealed the F-Type it was a instant success, Jag had recreated the image of the E-Type but also left the legacy of the E-Type alone by using a different letter in the alphabet. With the SVR Jaguar have knocked the ball out of the park again, the SVR looks aggressive yet elegant from every angle, The rear wing looks absolutely sublime and I believe that the little winglets on the side could perfectly accommodate the Union Jack/Flag on them! Well done Jag!

AMG GT R
The normal AMG GT-S is quite a looker, however the GT-S has been down to the gym and the benefits have paid off, from the front the vertical slats in the grille are a nod to the old Mercedes 300SL race car also the new wider front air intakes make the F-Type’s look understated. Now at the rear, the AMG GT-S has always had a great looking rear end but the new wing, diffuser and the centrally mounted exhaust tip the AMG GT R has reached a new level of angry. How can we forget the colour, that obnoxious green would look absurd on any car but on the AMG GT R it looks outrageously good.

Pricing

Now as usual get the box of tissue’s its time to look at the cost of these mean sports cars.

Wheels: 20 inch ‘Maelstrom’ wheels- £8,570 (With Ceramic disks)

AMG GT R
The normal AMG GT-S costs the same as a F-Type SVR priced at £110,000 so unfortunately you can expect the GT R to cost £10,000 or even £20,000 more than the regular car! Now would be the time to get the tissues…

Conclusion

I my personal opinion there is absolutely nothing to separate these cars in terms of performance and I can’t wait for the comparison video’s (Hopefully). However, I believe that my personal tastes would mean that I would buy the AMG GT R but until it is officially tested I cannot make a proper decision between the two cars as I love them both.

Which would you have?

Hope you enjoyed reading this!

Until you stand next to a GTR & sit inside one (as I did at Goodwood 2017) & have that Hell Mango Green paint radiate all around & then take in that exuberant & menacing front grill you cannot really imagine the ‘Beast from the Green Hell’……..pictures just do not do it justice! But the Jag is super cool & aggressive too so I don’t know which one to buy….need to have test drives!!!
