Mazda mx 5 NB vs NBFL

Why does the NBFL has a slower 0-60 time despite having 6 hp more?
Are there any major differences in terms of reliability and power between the both 1.8 l?

Not the hugest difference between them. VVT engines and the LSDs are the biggest difference. Not sure about where you are but in the UK 2001-2002 had Torsen LSDs (the one to get), and 2003-2005 had the much less desirable Fuji LSD. I believe this was the spec for 6 speed cars only. I’d check the forums if you’re elsewhere as the spec may differ from country to country.

All mk2s and mk2.5s have dual skinned front chassis rails so rust can be a real problem for both of them there.

Perfomance wise there’s not much in it. Mk2.5s may have more bracing but not 100% on that. Both good cars as long as you get a clean one that isn’t rusty, basically the number one rule when buying any MX-5. Buy on condition, everything else can be changed/upgraded.

But I am still not sure about why the nbfl has a much slower 0-60.
140hp has 7,9 while thr 146 hp has 8,5.

Original NB looks better. Don’t like the facelift much.
