The Ellenator. Driving from 16 (In Germany)

First you need to know that you can drive a car in Germany when your’re 18 year old. As a 16 year old you can make the A1 Driving license which allow you to drive Light motorcycles and 3 wheeled vehicles

And this car called Ellenator count as a 3 wheeled vehicle

he is named after his inventor “Wenzeslaus Ellenrieder”

In order for young people with an A1 driver’s license to drive with his small car, he has to rebuild a car accordingly. Best suited for the Fiat 500. The rear wheels he mounted at a distance of 46.5 centimeters. Because, according to the law, it is now considered one wheel

With this gap, the “Ellenator” is considered by law to be a “three-wheeled vehicle,” even though he is traveling with four wheels. In order not to exceed the limit of 20 hp, Ellenrieder adjusts the engine electronics. Before a converted vehicle comes to its new owner, it is checked and approved by the TÜV

TÜV = German Technical Control Board

Wenzeslaus Ellenrieder had this idea because his 16 year old son drove a motorcycle And he was not satisfied with the safety of the motorcycle and then he had the idea “What would be if we could build a vehicle for 16 year old?” and the most safest vehicle was for him a normal car with seatbelt, Airbags and ABS. He rebuilt it so that it met the legal requirements for an A1 license which allow to drive Light motorcycles and 3 wheeled vehicles up to 20HP

During the 1 year development period, the mechanic tried out various tags Because of the high axle load, a wheel was towing

So he came up with the idea to mount two wheels side by side
also an advantage of this car is that it comes easy on spare parts
the tags cost 5000 €

Thats the point. First you need the car and then 5000€ the rebuild it … For that money you can get a better or a “real” car with more power

But this is very expensive for a juvenile. And they can’t affiord this normally. But maybe you have luck and rich parent’s who buy you this
