First. Car. LIVE! #16: [Hyundai Accent SR] Rate it in the comments below.
Intro: I’m really surprised by the result from the last one, i thought the score would be higher, but is exactly 0.01 lower than the Saxo. And it’s weird because the one from two weeks ago was still hovering around the same score. I wonder how many can be chained around the 8.3x score.
There is realy nothing impressive here, just a 1.6L 16V inline-4 that makes 105HP and 144NM. It’s a rather warm hatch, but a very good looking one.
Something that makes it a bit cooler is that it comes with disc brakes on all wheels, all equipped with ABS.
Relesed 2005 and exclusive to Canada, only 500 units were ever sold. But this is not the problem, because the SR is actually the same thing as the SE/GLS in terms of specifications. They both have the disc brakes, engine and sporty suspensions, stress bar and sport intake.
I’ve decided to go a little crazy this time, just because it’s cheap to do. But first of all, we need a replica SR bodykit.
Now it would be cool to have something special this time.
How about a twin-turbo bi-turbo setup?
I’ve seen this tiny water bottle sized turbo, the IHI RHB31 VZ31. Why not have two of those. Split the intake into two tubes going into each one of them, and then from thw turbos, go into the bigger IHI RHF5. All of them would be set at a low and safe PSI. For the grand total of 160HP, but with lots of fun and cool sounds. For the intercooler we would use a small cheap kit from Epman Racing.
For the carbon fiber trim the original SR had, we could use some high quality realistic carbon fiber 3D pattern wrap.
Since those turbos are extremelly cheap, actually less than 500€ all three of them. I doubt this whole project would go over 3000€, if you can actually find a hatchback Accent for sale where you live. The sedan one is quite common and very cheap too.
At the end, i just wanted to have some fun with this one, more serious episodes will come in a few days, but this one time i wanted to be a little more creative and challenge what you can actually do on a tight budget. I don’t need 1000HP in a tiny little hatchback, i want it to have character, because the personality is worth more than anything in a car. This is what car manufacturing is all about. They are already functional, they go from A to B just fine. But it’s about the way it goes from A to B, how it look, how it sounds and how it makes you feel while driving it to your destination.
It’s not really even about the actual car this time. I just liked how it looked. Like, a lot.
If you like it, you like it. If you don’t, you don’t. And i’m completelly fine with it. Can’t wait to see the scores on this one.

Wow I never even knew it existed! Regardless, I love Accent! My dad bought a sedan GLE in 2004 or 2005. However, Accent’s are infamous for having too relaxed and uninspiring driving dynamics when compared to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which although had a similar power output, was much more fun to drive. To make it a better driver’s car, Hyundai released the Accent Viva later, which was the 5-door hatchback version of the same. It had a 101 bhp 1.6 CRDi but still didn’t become much popular, only to be later discontinued. The Accent name was also discontinued in India thereafter, as the next generation (the car you wrote about in this post) was called Verna. The Accent name returned in 2014 or something but with a twist. The new compact sub-4 metre sedan was called the Xcent. It’s still very popular among cabbies.
This is the Accent Viva.
This is the facelifted Hyundai Xcent currently on sale.
As for this post, that twin turbo sounds so FREAKIN’ amazing! 6/10 as it is not a very proven car.
Apparently there also is a limited edition SR (if the first one wasn’t limited enough) with a whole new, slightly wider bodykit.
The Accent had so many versions and i though the Albea had many facelifts. 😂
Anyway, this one was just for fun.
And i actually think that turbo setup would technically work.
Like, if you search for the small turbos, they as big as an actual water bottle. No joke.
I think the low end boost with those would be quite great.
I wonder if the turbos would crack tho…
No no no, I hate hyundais 2/10
But why?

I like Hyundai cars in general, but I prefer the Accent saloon
