Japanese Imports: Mazda RX7

The Mazda RX7 began production in 1978 as the SA. It had the Rotary engine. You probably know how it works already but incase you don’t here’s how it works here’s a link that explains it pretty well

Anyways in 1980 the SA was replaced with the FB. There were minor differences in the cars. The engines they came with were the 12A, 12A Turbo and the 13B RE-EGI. They Came with 4-speed and 5-speed transmissions in either Automatic or Manual. They made about 500,000 FB/SA RX7’s. In 1985 the RX7 FB upgraded to the FC. The engines it came with were the 13B VDEI, The Turbo II . It made 215 Horsepower and weighed between 2,696 lbs and 3,492 lbs ( 1,223 and 1,584kg ). In1988 it had an optional convertible model. They made about 270,000 FC RX7’s. In 1992 The newest and greatest RX7 came out with it sleek aerodynamic body and a high revving twin turbocharged 13B-REW Rotary engine making at most out of the factory 276 horsepower. It may not sound like much but was light. It was called the FD because of the Chassis FD3S. The most light and powerful FD is the Spirit R Type A. In 2002 the Mazda RX7 stopped production. After 2002 The RX8 took its place until 2012 when it also stopped. Many don’t really count it as an RX7 or as great as it could ever be. Soon ( hopefully) the RX7 will be replaced by a new better RX7.
