Peugeot 607

The 607 hated by many, Jeremy Clarkson hated this car, calling it the worst car you could buy new when it came out, but I don’t care because I like it. Well this french sedan was launched in June 2000 to replace the beautiful 605, using the same chassis , and available with a 2.2 petrol engine with 160hp, a 3.0 V6 with 210hp and a 2.2HDI with 136hp. In 2001 came smaller engines with a 2.0 petrol engine with 138hp and a 2.0HDI with 109hp. In 2004 the car received a facelift, the 2.0 petrol was continued around the same time. In 2005 the 2.2HDI was replaced with 2.0HDI with the same power. In 2006 a new 2.2HDI twin tubo engine with 170hp.

As for the interior, it was packed with features with 8 airbags, climate control, tire pressure monitor, park assistant, side lights that automatically illuminate in falling light,the rear view mirror that darkens, the stereo volume that raises and falls depending on your speed, clever rain sensitive wipers; sat nav and AMVAR (Active Suspension) were options, and looked quite good in my opinion, apart from that bland steering wheel.

There were two gearbox options: a 5 speed manual and a 4 speed automatic, the automatic had a Tiptronic with a «manual mode», this gearbox was quite intelligent having an auto-adaptive function that can learn your preferred driving style, judging it by 32 different criteria, also the gearbox read the road conditions and the environment you’re travelling in, for example in towns it will start in second gear to a smoother start, in a sportier ride the gearbox tries to not shift in mid corner.
