The German's take on Cars and Coffee
--Picture heavy--

A few years after the Cars & Coffee-Meets started gaining popularity in North America, similar events started being organized in Germany too.
These are a bit smaller than those in the USA, but still manage to assemble a few hundred cars from all parts of the car-culture.

In July 2018 the event in Hamburg, Germany celebrated its tenth anniversary, and I decided to pay it another visit, letting you guys get a glimpse at what is essentially a cross-section of German car-culture.
After my last visit and been to a meeting drowning in rain I was happy to see warm temperature and a cloud-less sky on the big day.

The event, hosted at the site of a US-Style Diner (leading to a strong presence of American cars), was scheduled to start at 9am.
I arrived half an hour early, and there were already around 40 cars present.
Cars would come and go throughout the morning, so I chose to make a couple of laps, spending rather little time per car to make sure I’d get everything worth showing.

As the parking-lots used for the event started to fill up taking photos got a little more difficult, since most cars ended up standing too tightly together to get good photos.
Also, a whole lot of people straight-out ignore cameras, or being asked to step aside for a second.

I spent a lot of time around this little roadster, partly because the owner was nowhere to be seen (so I couldn’t ask him about it).
I found out that this is a “Burton”, a Dutch car build with a full glass fiber body, based off the Citroen 2CV and sold as a complete car or as a kit to build it yourself.
I took advantage of the free space around it and got a decent ad-hoc photoshoot pulled off before the space was filled (see the link below).

By that point (almost 45 Minutes after the event was supposed to begin) there were no free parking spots left, so people parked on the road and queued down the street (surrounded by a small army of cellphone-wielding car spotters).

People were walking around rather randomly, everyone seemed to have found something that interested him…

And then this white whale stole the show.

By that point (just after 11am) the nice summer warmth had gotten a bit hot for my liking, and since I was satisfied with what I had on my camera-chips I took another lap of the area (without my camera), and eventually headed home.
It had been a pretty nice event, with (as far as I know) only one person feeling like he had to misbehave and give car-culture a bad image.

I have a couple of cars that got their own little “photoshooting” right there on location, you can find those at the link below:
