1975 IMT 539 Deluxe

An extremely popular tractor which Yugoslav people know too well - the IMT 539. The name IMT stands for Industry of Machinery and Tractors, and the Deluxe stands for the closed roof. There were 539s with an open roof as well. Anyways, it was a yugoslavian rip-off from a 60s Massey Fergusson 35X but yeah, the Massey did not have a Deluxe version. The IMT 539 is very easy to operate, maintain, is quite manouevrable and yeah, it’s good for beginner farmers. So, under the hood lies a mighty 2 and a half litre Inline-3 diesel engine which makes 40hp and enough torque to pull a couple of tonnes. Yeah, a 2.5l engine with 40hp. But it was an undersquared N/A diesel. Undersquared means that it makes waaaay more torque than horsepower. Now, this thing is not fast at all. It is actually damn slow. Top speed: about 28mph. But it sounds nice tho. So, it has a 3 speed manual, reverse is included obviously, no assists whatsoever, no power steering, no A/C, no seatbelt, zero safety. But the seat is quite comfy. Oh, the seat is aftermarket. The front bumper is also a modification. And I think it has a couple horsepower extra as well since some basic engine mods have been done as well. All in all, I use it for personal leisure, transport of goods, and work in fields with different attachments. It is rock reliable, has solid cold starts as well and doesn’t drink much oil or diesel. It is the first motorised vehicle that I ever drove, starting when I was 10, and I have good memories with it. And - it’s easier to drive than a car with a manual transmission. But it’s not a vehicle for everyone. Anyways, I don’t think this tractor will be sold anytime before it needs to go to the scrapyard. So, a recap, it is a Yugoslavian rip off from an american tractor, and I think the Yugoslavian people made it a bit better, and is the perfect cheap reliable tractor for beginner farmers. use it. I like it and I don’t think it is either really good or bad. It is just, fine. That is all.
