MR2 Spyder/MR-S owners: Has your pre-cat ever failed on you? If so, what were the aftermaths? I'm considering on getting an MR2 Spyder since they're so cheap.

There was some issues on spyderchat, but not that much.. My recommandation would be to guts the cats, not that hard https://midshiprunabout.org/mk3/precat-removal/
You can do it yourself suite easily!
I strongly recommend you that car, it’s a lovely one, may not looks the best but its pretty cute and you instantly fall in love with it as soon as you’re behind the wheel 😄

I still thinking about it. I just want a daily that works, with OEM parts readily available when stuff goes wrong.I’m debating between a new 86 or MR2 Spyder.

They are not bad cars by any means. I kinda like them. turbo kits are available for the 1zz as well as supercharger kits, so getting more power shouldn’t be a problem

Yeah, I know. I was wondering how bad is it for the engine if the pre-cat failed while driving. Some say the engine blows up, I’m not sure. Every car has an issue of some sort, this car is no different, just a bit more severe, when it happens.

If I’m fine with 115HP, I’m fine with the 1ZZ. If I do get one, I’ll do a 2ZZ swap down the road if I feel like it.
