Top 6 Tobacco Sponsorship Liveries...with a subjective twist. A mini #blogpost

So…after about 9-10 mon-I mean, years of not writing blogposts due to being busy, and the fact that user activity has dropped in CarThrottle, thus dropping my motivation on writing for fun, I decided to go back to my old self from late 2015. But, I don’t have cars to review or researched lists to be made so, I decided to do a small little quicklist writeup about the two things I really like in my life: motorsport and tobacco.

You see, tobacco advertising is something I personally don’t really mind but of course, the turn of the millennium brought political correctness to a whole new level and banned tobacco advertising because apparently some stickers placed on advertising spaces about certain things you inhale is about as dangerous as the product itself, of course. And that’s a shame because not only racing teams lost their sponsor partner, they also lose some fantastic unique colors and liveries on their cars so, to take a look back to the old tobacco sponsor era, I have made the list of the 6 greatest.

I don’t make this post to encourage smoking, no. Although it feels nice to me, it isn’t really to everyone’s taste at least I don’t smoke hashish. Again, don’t start smoking.

Wait…wait. There’s a little twist here. I’m not going to order them from “Oh, Mild Seven’s blue color is amazing,” “State Express 555 has a unique livery,” etc., no. I’m going to order them from my subjective impression from their respective product. Yes, so the number one on this list is guaranteed to be my personal favorite cigarette.

6. Silk Cut

I. Loathe. Silk. Cut. Tom Walkinshaw Racing must’ve been in a desperation for sponsors because frankly, Silk Cut is the last brand that I think of when I think of cigarettes.

If I can summarize Silk Cut, it would be Like Smoking Fresh Air. These Were The Cigarettes i Started To Smoke When I Was 15 after started smoking Dji Sam Soe,i enjoyed them very much , but i found after smoking them for a while that they were not very strong with just 5mg tar 0.5mg nicotine and 5 mg carbon monoxide. It is a lovely cigarette but it is let down by its lack of nicotine hit,i also found that brand of cigarette very expensive.

5. Marlboro

It is a much better cig than Silk Cut, agreed. It is quite good actually and that says a lot because those words came from an Indonesian.

Marb reds. Cowboy Killers. The simple red n white pack has a romantic, even legendary, aura surrounding it. But let’s be real…this stuff isn’t really that good. Tastes chemical-y, packed sloppily, burns unevenly. A very short smoke too, which for me is a detractor. And leaves a very unpleasant odor. You know the odor is terrible when a smoker says it…

4. JPS

This is an odd cigarette to me. It doesn’t taste very filtered and chemical-y which I like but, the strength is just…interesting, shall I say. Me and my friend find these cigarettes strong and too overwhelming at times not being able to finish a full one. I believe at this cheap price I can tolerate them at times.

The cigarettes are also quite interestingly inconsistent. Which is weird for a cigarette with very little in the way of chemicals. One roll tastes okay, the next one gets you overwhelmed and ill, it’s weird, to put it clearly.

3. Rothmans Benson & Hedges

This is kind of a tie since I couldn’t really decide which one is the better one because, really, they are all good. So good, I can’t separate these two. Well, I put them up as if they’re one because, well, now they are one so, I’m guessing that’s a loophole. Have enjoyed smoking these for over 10 years-alternate w Winfield Reds.I’ve always liked the “old school”pack and the logo on the cigarette.They are strong,with just a hint of harshness which I enjoy.

Taste is not aromatic but rich and not sweet to my taste like a B&H classic.The burn is even and they last a decent time,tho now they are made in Australia,and I definitely think the former NZ made versions were tighter packed.Nice throat hit and excellent nicotine kick.

On the other end, Benson & Hedges, the Gold in particular, is something that I always liked and while they do not taste superb to me they do have a degree of quality about them that’s hard to find in other cigarettes. The price of these packs lets them down a little but for a tasty, premium smoke Benson and Hedges is the way to go. Not too strong but definitely no light either, smooth and heavy I’d like to call it. No wonder King George VI loved these.

2. State Express 555

So, the top 2 is where my BAT-Bentoel fanboying kicks in. 555 juuuust missed out the one on the other side (literally the other side because 1999 BAR-Supertec 01). This missed out the top step due to the price. These are a British import in the USA and Australia, and much harder to find these in Australia, going for around A$13 a pack. I don’t find these similar to Camel TG, as some idiots have said. They are very good, and a good treat here and there if you can find them.

However, I do find these to be just a little too light. If only it just kicks you a bit more, it would be another tie between the two BAT-Bentoel cigarettes.

1. Lucky Strike

…your body rocking, keep me up all night. One in a million. My Lucky Strike…

Particularly the Red and the Classic Unfiltered one.

These are seriously the best Burley-based cigarettes I have ever smoked. I don’t entirely understand the “toasting” process but apparently it really smooths out the “rough edges” a Burley-heavy blend can often have. I’m certain BAT uses air cured leaf of paramount grade as well. These are just great smokes. Very nice, smooth enjoyable American cigarettes. The price is a little high but so often in life you “get what you pay for” and I would say with confidence that holds true here as well.

Hard to find, but worth it. You can taste the slightly toasted burnt taste of the tobacco. Like no other cigarette I ever smoked. They smell good too when burning, no chemical smell at all.

And that was that, readers. Yes, this is a blog post. Yes, I know this is CarThrottle not TobaccoThrottle, but I gave the beautiful liveries for your viewing pleasure.

I wanted to give CarThrottle some political incorrectness without pushing the boundaries and I thought, hmm..maybe tobaccos is a great base.
