What makes sexy cars... sexy?- #Blogpost by Szymek S

Introduction

Hello CTzens! How are you all doing? I’m pretty good myself. After my article about the Aston Martin Zagato I started to think: what actually makes this beautiful car so goddamn sexy? I think I might have come up with a few answers after doing my research on many, many sexy cars. So without further ado: let’s get right into it!

Looks

This of course is one of the most important factors. I found that most of the cars I find sexy have edgy, flowing lines and the design is partially based on circular shapes. That way the car seems a bit bigger than it is in reality and looks sport yet comfortable. For example let’s compare the Lamborghini Aventadoor and a Ferrari F12 tdf. Both of the cars look like supercars, but I find the design of the Lamborghini- quite boring to be frank with you. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great aerodynamically, but the mega edgy lines are much to pointy which makes the car looks fat.
Meanwhile we have the Ferrari F12 tdf looks extremely beautiful. The wave shape on the door helps in making the car look more slick and neat. The vents on the rear quarters of the car show the racing heritage of the car and the beautiful ducktail takes you on the journey back to the 1970’s Detroit.
The hood has lines which are clearly inspired by the F1 Ferrari’s. Once again we can see the connection to the amazing history the manufacturer with a prancing horse in its logo has in racing .
This combination of styles make the F12 tdf a very original car and one that turns heads anywhere you go with it. In my opinion it’s the sexiest car you can find on the market currently.

The Brand

This is one of the most important factors, the manufacturers history and reputation is very important. Once again a prime example of this is Ferrari. They have such a spectacular style that even if you are not a car enthusiast you knows when a Ferrari passes you on the highway. The level of prestige you get when you buy a Ferrari is extremely high. You are going to be known as the guy who owns a Ferrari.
Let me compare brands for you. Let’s say that the manufacturer TATA built an extremely beautiful car, the engine is great, it sounds good and is all around a great car- will it be considered sexy? Probably not, because the reputation that TATA has is… atrocious.
Meanwhile Let’s say Aston Martin has built an economical, practical car. It’s not beautiful by any means, but it’s not bad. It runs on a 1.5l ecoBoost engine which makes 180 hp. Because of the reputation that Aston Martin has because of its heritage and history some people will still find this car sexy.
That is just the way that our brains work. It’s very hard for a brand to lose its prestige level I don’t think we can imagine Aston Martin making cars for the not so wealthy people.

The engine and the engines note

This is an extremely important factor, if your vehicle doesn’t have a sexy engine note it’s not going to be as sexy as other cars that sound Godly.
The engine is also a very important factor for making a car sexy. The best example to show off what I mean is the new Ford GT. There is absolutely no doubt that this car is an engineering masterpiece. The looks are mega futuristic and very, very slick. People fell in love with it either instantly or after looking at it for some time. The only issue is the engine… we all know that it’s going to be amazing but it just isn’t as awesome as the V8. V6 EcoBoost? Sounds like something from an economic car that wants to act all sporty.
Meanwhile on the other side of the spectrum we have the new Aston Martin Zagato, they are made in the same year and both of them are equally special. But the Zagato is powered by a V12 engine! a V12! In 2016! How crazy is that?! In my opinion it just adds the sexiness to the car.

The cars that could’ve been sexy but aren’t

There are a few cars that could’ve been really sexy but just didn’t

  • Bugatti Veyron- I think we can all agree that the Veyron was a revolutionary car, but we can also agree that the bug like design is not the pretties. Fortunately Bugatti did an awesome job with the Chiron.
  • Aston Martin Rapide- this one had all of the potential to be the sexiest 4door saloon on the planet, but the design on it just simply wasn’t enough which is a real shame. I’d love to see a refreshed design of the Rapide.
  • Maserati Levante- Great company produces a car with great engine but once again the design is quite hideous. I think you all have the same opinion.
    • Delorean DMC12- this car got a lot of attention because of the Back To The Future franchise so they had already gathered some prestige. The design was new, fresh and interesting but the power plant was absolutely trash…

There are many more examples like the cars I mentioned above.

Classics

Well Szymek you’ve only talked about the modern cars that are sexy, what about some of the older automobiles?
In my opinion the rules are almost the same. The car needs to have a beautiful design, be made by a legendary manufacturer and sound great. There are so many sexy classics like:

  • Ferrari 250 GTO
  • Porsche 911 2.7 RS
  • Jaguar E-Type
  • Lamborghini Countach
  • Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale
    and many more.

What about Muscle Cars?
Okey here is the thing:
I don’t think Muscle Cars are sexy. Their design is too simplistic to make them be as desirable as other classic cars like the Porsche 911 2.7 RS.
Most of the cars are bulky, muscular and just scream manliness. They aren’t sophisticated in almost anyway and the brands that make them don’t have high level of prestige. But the engines and their sounds are absolutely insane…
Does this mean I don’t like Muscle Cars? Absolutely not! I love those things!

Bye Bye

CTzens! I hope you enjoyed this little article I wrote. I would love to know what is your favourite, sexy car!
Cheers,
Szymek S

Nothing can quite beat the timelessness of all RX7 models.

I still think the normal F12 looks way better than the TdF, especially from behind

This is a brilliant blog post, easily one of my favourites yet! However, I do have one small discrepancy. Toyota.
They don’t have exactly a great reputation. The Supra then, where does that fit in. And also, what about possibly one of the prettiest cars of all time? The 2000 GT?
Anyway, I’m suer exceptions can be made here and there ;) Also, you might want to pick up the latest Top Gear magazine, as there’s a whole feature on the “Joy of Machines”, and what makes some cars fun and others not. Without going to have a look, another thing that they found was components, which you might want to havea a think about. Anyhow, thanks for the article, that was a pleasure to read! :)

Wow thank you so much for such kind words :)
I have completely forgotten about the Japanese cars which I don’t know how did it happen. The 2000GT is truly a sexy car but I don’t really consider the Supra to be sexy :)

Beneto

I don’t think the Maserati Levante is hideous. For me it looks just beautiful. I’d rather have it than a Bentayga :)

I got to agree with that article (I’m not going to write about how it’s written - you know it’s good). But I have to point there are some sexy muscle cars - like C3 Corvette or first gen Challenger.

Actually I think the sexiest car you’ll find on the market today is the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder.

I’m not a big fun of the Huracan. I like the 488 much more

One of the most sexiest cars in my opinion is the 2006 Miura Concept. I guess that some die-hard Lamborghini enthusiasts will hate me for saying this, but I think this car looks as good (if not better) as the original 1966 model. It’s a shame that it never made it into production…
