A brief history of Koenigsegg...

Koenigsegg. Not only is it a very difficult to pronounce name but it is also a byword of speed, power and quality. So where did it all start? That’s what I’m about to tell you. So sit down buckle up and grab a cold one because I’m about to show you a brief history of Koenigsegg.

Koenigsegg was founded in Sweden in 1994 by Christian Von Koenigsegg. A man who has a name that makes him sound like a Bond villain but actually he looks like a really happy egg. Koenigsegg delivered their first production car in 2002 but Koenigsegg as we know really kicked off in 2006.

In 2006 Koenigsegg took the design of their first car (The CC8S) and made it complicit with current legislation at the time and made it road legal. For the CCX Koenigsegg made their own engine and this paved the way for Koenigsegg as we know them.

After the release of the CCX, many other version were created such as the CCXR. In 2009 CCX production ceased and it was in 2010 that Koenigsegg released a successor: the Agera. In English “Agera” means: to act or to take action. And that is exactly what Koenigsegg did with the Agera. Koenigsegg developed a 5.0 Twin Variable Geometry Turbo V8 mated to an all new 7-Speed paddle shift gearbox.

At the 2015 Geneva Motorshow Koenigsegg released the Regera, which means to reign. The Regera was a different direction for Koenigsegg because it was the companies first hybrid and featured direct drive. What the direct drive system is is a direct link from crankshaft to axle. But Koenigsegg did this in conjunction with elctrical assistance to make it smoother and more useable.

In 2014 Koenigsegg made 6 units of a highly tweaked Agera called the One:1. It was called the One:1 because of its 1:1 power to weight ratio. The One:1 produced 1360PS and weighed 1360KG. This 1:1 Power ratio was a world first for a production car.

Well that was a brief history of Koenigsegg. I hope you enjoyed and I thank you for reading!

WOW! That’s probably something like 3 or 4% of all the Koenigseggs on the roads! I’ve never even seen one in person :(

Nice read, but I feel like it could have been more detailed, especially in the early years.
