Top Drives: Surface and Tyre Guide

Okay, so In Top Drives there is alot of confusion about tyres and surface combinations, so I thought today i’d write a mini blog post explaining who to use the correct car on the correct surface

Overall in Top Drives there are surface types, these are, in order of how extreme they are;

  1. Asphalt
  2. Gravel
  3. Dirt
  4. Sand
  5. Snow
  6. Ice

I don’t believe Sand can be wet, but Asphalt, Dirt and Gravel can, whereas Snow and Ice are for obvious reasons, wet surfaces.

First of all, the Tyre Types, this list is in order of how effective they are offroad

  1. Slicks
  2. Performance
  3. Standard
  4. All Surface
  5. Off Road

You want to use All Surface on dry dirt or gravel, as that is where they are most effective.
Off Road Tyres work best on wet dirt, wet gravel, sand, snow and ice. Traction Control and ABS are also huge helps.

Scenarios like Hill Climb and Motocross Track are best used with a high ride height vehicle that has 4wd, a Datsun 240z won’t work very well on those tracks because it uses 2WD and has a lower ride height than a 4WD Hummer with the same tyres.

Finally, wet asphalt is probably the most common scenario. It is best tackled by a car with Standard Tyres but if you have an AWD supercar and you’re against a RWD supercar, chances are you’ll win quite easily.
