Lamborghini ItalDesign Calà - The Gallardo that never was

The Lamborghini Calà was a concept car presented by Automobili Lamborghini in 1995.
It was based on the previous P140 concept from 1988. It was meant to replace the Jalpa, which went out of production in 1988.

Designed by Giorgietto Giugiaro of ItalDesign, the Calà was powered by a 3.9-litre V10 engine, with a power output of 408 hp at 7,200 rpm, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The car was rear-wheel-drive.

The Calà’s performance figures were outstanding for the time, with a 0-100 km/h time of just 5.0 seconds and an estimated top speed of 290 km/h.

The Calà featured a Traga top, that could be removed.

Unfortunately, due to Lamborghini’s difficult situation at the time, the Calà never entered production, but it served as an inspiration for future Lamborghini models; for example, many of the Calà’s styling cues can be found on the Gallardo and the Murciélago, and the V10 engine was modified and placed under the hood of the Gallardo.

The Calà was featured in the 1997 videogame Need For Speed II SE.

Only 3 prototypes were ever built.
