The History of the rarest Muscle car

So we all know that certain muscle cars can get pretty expensive like the roadrunner superbird or the 69 mustang mach1, but today i wanna talk a little bit about the rarest, and probably one of the most expensive muscle cars ever made. You might be saying well a Plymouth Hemi Cuda is expensive but not that expensive and also not very rare. Well that’s true but I’m talking about a certain cuda. The 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible 426 4speed manual.

So to understand why this car is so expensive I’ll give you a quick history about the Plymouth barracuda. It was built from 1964 until 1974 and originally was Chryslers answer to the ford mustang.

The 1970 model was the last year where you could get the 7.2l v8 and the 1971 model the last year with the big hemi elephant. The 426. After that the cuda lost power like most American cars that era and ended up with 5.9l magnum as it’s biggest engine in the final year 1974.

But why is the 71 convertible so special now? Well not all 71 convertibles. Only the ones who had the 426 hemi, 4speed manual transmission the shaker hood and a Dana 60 rear end with a 9,3/4” rear diff. Only 12 cars were produced with all those options (which makes the superbird look like a Toyota corolla in production numbers compared to it) and there are only 6 or 7 remaining. A while ago the purple one (from my post) got sold for 3.4mio usd… That’s more than 3 Ferrari f40 or half of idaho.
So if somebody ever finds one of those in his barn I’d probably murder him for that car…

But thats it. A short history of the 71 426 cuda. Hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading

My Saleen is a 1 of 1, the only of it’s year with a factory supercharger. My Explorer is one of one with that exact build sheet. My Focus is one of… a million. LoL

As much as I love the ‘71 Cuda, It’s not the rarest muscle car.
In MY1970, Dodge would build only 9 Challenger R/T Convertibles with the 426 Hemi. Of those 9, only 4 were fitted with a 727 Torqueflite Automatic.
The car in this photo is one of those 4 that I saw with my own 2 eyes and took this photo with my sh!tey phone
