Indonesian legends: Nurik the Mazda B600

Back in the 90s, Indonesia had a very huge racing scene and culture. Varying from your casual street racing, drag racing, and some also choses to race in the one and only Sentul Circuit. On this occassion, i’m going to tell you about this Kemayoran drag strip legend, Nurik.

Now unlike Japan, we Indonesian doesn’t really get cars like the Skyline, RX7, Supra, etc for reasonable price, so we improvise with what cars that we can get. Now Nurik in particular, started life as an unlikely to be turned race car Mazda B600.

Mazda B600 itself (Mazda Porter in some countries) is a very small van. This car used to be common in Indonesia, therefore it has a cheap price. Standard this car comes with a 587 cc V-Twin engine that produces err… basically no power at all, however the car itself is very light, weighing only 535 kg. Its engine is quite popular to be used for a custom chopper, but to be turned into a racing engine? Impossible.

Like every single Indonesia legendary racer, there’s no exact spec for the car spreading around the internet, but what is known about Nurik is that it has a Pontiac engine, presumably a V6, and it produces lots and lots of power, and that’s pretty much it that is known about the car.

Same goes with the performance of the car, it is unclear about how fast this thing goes, but from the rumors from many people, some say it ran 6s on the 1/4 mile, and some even say that it ran 5s on the 1/4 mile! The reason for that is that the owner’s father is a professor at the engine department, which made his tuning skills to be godlike.

Unfortunately, Nurik is not with us anymore. It died in a crash in which it rolled (Failrace approved i guess). There’s no concrete reason of how and why the car rolled, but the fact that this car is now dead saddens me.
