Why the Corvette Z06 is NOT a 'Muscle' Car

It may not seem obvious at first, but I, and many other CTzens, have reasons why the Z06 is NOT a muscle car. Here are some to name a few: -

1) The car is too technologically advanced: This may seem a bit stupid. But a muscle car must be a lump of steel, with simple technology and a big engine. Take the Mustang for example. Until the new model was released a couple years back, the car had a live rear axle! (This meaning both rear/drive wheels were constantly spinning at the same speed).

2) Too much like a Supercar: I think that the Z06 is too much like a Supercar to be called a Muscle car. It has the looks over the C6 Corvette and,, in my opinion, looks better than the new Ferrari GTC4 Lusso.. (I know)!!

3) Drivetrain options: The new Z06 comes with 2 drivetrain options. One is a 6-speed manual with active rev-match tech, and an 8-speed auto with paddle shifters. This means that the new Z06 is more track focused than the last generation.

ON THE OTHER HAND - Here are some of the reasons why you may want to argue that the Z06 IS a Muscle Car: -

1)Availability in the UK: Here in the UK, we don’t get many muscle cars. Sure, put them all together and you have a lot, but you very rarely see an old Mustang or Charger. Muscle cars are not readily available in the UK. Because they are so rare over here and how old they are, a decent 1960’s Dodge Charger can cost anything from the £20k mark to nearly £150k! Sure, we get the new Mustang, but to me, selling them in this country isn’t the same as having on imported from the US.

The Z06 is also a rare car in this country. To put this into perspective, there are several thousand Ford dealerships that sell a range of cars such as a Kuga, a Fiesta or even a Focus RS! BMW, there are hundreds of showrooms selling M240is, X3s, Z4s and M cars. But Corvette. There is only 1. 1 showrooms for the whole of the UK. That’s 1 showroom for 1 type of car for over 66 million people.

To be honest, when your parents, siblings, friends or family want to buy a new car, they thinks of something sensible like a Nissan or a Kia, they don’t think of a Corvette!!

2) The V8 Motor and Drive wheels: Yes! Like most Muscle Cars, the Z06 has a V8, but unlike most, its Supercharged… The Z06 has just over 600hp going to the rear wheels via your choice of gearbox (6-speed manual or 8-speed auto). This meaning that the Z06 has more potential for the torque to kick in, so that means its more likely to crash. This then meaning Mustang jokes will no longer be funny and Corvette memes will rule the internet!!

3) LDH only: All Corvettes are built in Left-Hand-Drive only. Sure, you can buy conversion kits and build your own Right-Hand-Drive Corvette. This is just like all Muscle Cars such as the Charger, Challenger and Ford Torino.

  1. A solid rear axle means that the two rear wheels are connected together with a solid beam, it doesn’t mean the two back wheels spin at the same speed. THAT would mean it would have a welded differential or a spool.

This article could have been better, but still pretty decent.

Actually, the Corvette was never a muscle car, but a true blood super car to compete with it Italian competitors. From stock, suspension set up was tuned for track even the aerodynamic shape of the body. The V8 engine it has was design to rev higher to maximize the full potential of it at the circuit that also includes the transmission gearing combination.
