Sibling Rivarly - Why The Infiniti G35 Is Better Than The Nissan 350z

Disclaimer - This post is done by a teenager who has not driven both of the cars.

Aesthetics

This is main region where the both car differ from each other, they even have the same engine! I’ll get to that later, let’s talk aesthetics first.

Their main body style is of a fastback, sloping back with a mild stop before blending into the rear fascia. A stop featured in the G35 is much bigger than the Z33, as you can see from the above picture. The taillights too are different in the Z, featuring long and unconventional stretched taillamps. The one major advantage the G35 has is the option of a sedan body style, even though the power is a little less than the coupé, the sedan is the ideal option for the person with a family who wants a practical sedan as well as a performance vehicle. That is one huge advantage over the Z, which can be very impractical for the family guy and also for the normal guy because come on its a fastback coupé! It is also not big at space in the trunk. The space is there, but you can’t easily load your stuff because of the huge anti-roll bar. The G features a conventional trunk like any normal sedan, so there is no space for an anti-roll bar, making it easy to load into.

Drivetrain

This is the most common ground between the Z and the G. They both share an engine - a 3.5L V6 known as VQ35DE. VQ35DE hails from the Nissan VQ series of engines. Both the G35 coupe and sedan come with this in different states of tune. The sedan comes with approximately 260 to 298 HP. The coupe comes with approximately 280 to 298 HP.
The 350z comes with the same engine but in a much higher state of tune, it comes with approximately 287 to 300 HP.
The engine of course comes in several other Nissan vehicles, but they are not the main topic of this blog. We are only gonna focus on the G and Z here.
The G is the overall best package because of the practicality it offers in the sedan version. You have 260 HP at tap and also a very practical sedan. In the Z, the practicality is an issue because there is a huge anti-roll bar in the trunk preventing you from putting big suitcases in the trunk. The G35 sedan is your go-to car for both practicality and power.

Conclusion

Both the cars are good at their own fields. Some enthusiasts tend to overlook the G35 even if it is a great package. It is one of the few cars which could be both your daily driver and race car, obviously the sedan of course.

This post was in answer to enthusiasts who don’t look at the another car of the same platform and just ignore it. Many people fanboy the Z, the G is also worth a look. Who knows, I might have been a G35 fanboy if it wasn’t for the ‘Need For Speed factor’?

Interesting comparison. I like the G better for obvious reasons. The Z is a little too boy racer for me.

The G would probably have a nicer ride feel as well due to its entry luxury car credentials.

I did not go into ride and handling because I have not ridden or driven the cars.

But G35 is also only sold in Japan and USA. That’s why, most of the world has to do their work with the 350z.
