Should you warm up your engine before driving?

dom idk

Modern fuel injected cars made after the 2000s ish, about 45 seconds (just long enough for oil to circulate everywhere, then drive off, this brings temps up quicker and reduces blow by.
Older or carborated cars, atleast like 2 minutes, cause if you try amd drive off without letting it come somewhat up to temp, the car will stumble And shudder and crap for a little bit untill It warms up.

Gotta figure modern car companies are making cars for the average joe that starts his car and drives away 2 seconds later, so cars are built with this in mind

not sure if there’s something wrong with the car, but when is cold and I start driving right away it feels kinda lazy and even though I am accelerating to 3K revs(max) I notice like a variation on the engine response, no check engine lights whatsoever, still I always let it warm up for a minute or two.

Most likely because the car is running rich, or maybe it is a bit old, and some sensors aren’t working 100% but they are withing the tolerances so no check engine lights, or simply, that’s how it is :) Mine is also like that, a bit lazy, and holds revs a bit more after clutching.

Nah. Redline to ensure a fast and effective warmup.

How about diesel engine ? Cause i know diesel is also a lubricant which doesn’t alter the oil

I’d say the same applies, one of the problem of diesels is that they (used to) reach operating temperature a lot later, because diesels produce less waste heat, so they are especially bad for shorter or city driving.

hey look it’s an opel astra dressed up as a buick

Getting tired of videos from this guy. For the very reasons he/you, (If you reading this) mention, you SHOULD wait for your engine to warm up. For the very reasons that you mentioned, premature wear on components is a very real thing when oil Temps are low.

Telling people to believe this has been a myth for years is absolutely foolish. The longer you can allow your vehicle to get up to temp, as close too normal operating temps, the better.

Everyone’s interpretation of “light driving”, is different. Information like this being spread can too easily be misunderstood…

I know I’m not the only one that is going to protest this. You didn’t even mention turbo cars and crucial even more it is for them to be warmed up before putting the car under load and running high oil pressures…

Okay, so for ECU fuel injection fair enough, but what if you’ve got an oldschool diesel that has mechanical fuel injection? I know diesel also has some lubricant qualities too though so is it not as bad to push diesels cold? They take wayy longer to heat up than petrols tho? I know I can feel a massive power difference in my starlet when it’s hot or cold

like i have heard is that close to 80% of engine wear occurs the first 90 seconds after starting a cold engine, as it got poor lubrication in the start and will have the most wear them, hence why most cars used for long distance travel last longer than cars that are started more often and only go short distances.

I always let my turbocharged car and my bike idle when their stationary , I only move off when the revs drop below 1k and drive easy for a few miles by this time I can feel the engine beginning to loosen/warming up , and then I can open er up if I want to , before switching off car engine I always let the engine idle for about 30 seconds to a minute then I switch off 😎👍
