5 Reasons Why The Devel 16 Is Still Gonna Suck
So yesterday the car world had a small shock in a form of a video of the 4500bhp generated by a V16 engine that belongs to Devel 16. Supposedly the dyno could not handle more horsepower, therefore the promised 5000hp are valid. And don’t forget 3000 Torque the engine produced. No idea whether it was Nm or lb/ft however. Anyway, some may think that this claim will cause the Devel 16 to be the next Hypercar En Masse. It won’t.
1. No history
Reason number 1 is less obvious, but a valid one. The brand has no history which matters A LOT in the market they want to operate. Even the young brands like Koenigsegg and Pagani are there for over 20 years, and both got popular in the last 5-10 years. Nevertheless, both have extraordinary history that demands admiration. What do you know about Devel?
2. Don't judge the book by its cover
I don’t and won’t. Unless they tell me “it is a prototype, the interior will be changed later”, I will have to move to number 3 because I get shaky arms and slight hyperventilation.
3. Drivetrain
What drivetrain? Race car drivers know that the gearbox is maybe even a more important factor than the engine in a car. Not only it has to perform, it also has to be reliable. But before we all speculate, please tell me about the drivetrain specs in the Devel. Right, I don’t know them either. Probably “in development”.
4. Tyres
Even if the drivetrain will survive the 3000 or 5000 horses charging through it to the wheels, and if you won’t be bothered by massive wheelspin to be produced, there are no tyres designed for the claimed top speed of 350mph (560km/h). I mean, really? Do I need to explain all the fascinating facts about the Veyron tyres and you will tell me that there is company that out of nowhere came up with a tyre capable of “slightly more”?
5. 'Murica!
Wait, No, I mean “those cars”. Namely the Venom GT and This. Both of them were built to prove a point. I don’t know which one exactly. Probably something like “we can do it too, even better, faster and maybe cheaper”. But for some reason, they are not that popular as the rest of the hypercar-class field. Probably because they have their own class: one-day-flypercar.

Plot twist BADUM TSS
The name already won my heart.
I remember when this car was just a shell with an empty engine bay and a sign that read “5000hp coming soon”. And then we all laughed.
fast forward to yesterday when we all collectively shut our mouths. Does a trans that can handle that power seem impossible? Sure. Tires that can put it to the gound? Unheard of. But this company is the definition of saving your judgements for the release day.
That being said it is their first car and its a bad idea to buy version 1.0 of anything, they are new and hopefully will have the support to improve on whatever aspects dont meet these new ridiculous standards.
Great point of view!
good points boosted…
it’s formula 1 stuff there. And not the good stuff. It means that tires will be good for a 20km, as well as in veyron.
Brakes should be airplane stuff. They work more like clutch than a brake. And they won’t last long.
Only way you can keep drivetrain from breaking is to use electronics to apply power slowly. If that’s the solution, than it wont break any speed records,
Another Problem - Steering! Try to steer your car at 200km/h (120mp/h). It’s twitchy! Try to do that at 300km/h (180 mph) it’s even worse. Now Imagine that at 500 km/h!!!!! It’s not like a linear progression. It’s not 5x worse than at 100km/h it’s like 50x worse!
In the end, if they make this car Good and Usable, congrats to them. i don’t even care the look of it. if they to that, they are greatest engineers in the world. Give them a Nobel Price.
They actually had brakes from an ordinary city car which I am scare of
Youre kinds pulling the steering out of your arse. You mentioned the veyron, videos and reviews of when it gets to top speed show the steering is fine. The cars are designed around that so its a usles point to make
This dude is on fire!
Haha I believe it! Just don’t see how a car with an interior looking like that can handle 5000 horses. I mean I’m not usually one to judge things base on styling but it looks like it;s made of cardboard. Seriously flimsy! Looking forward to seeing it in action but yeah it’s probably going to last 2 miles and burst into flames. I’m starting to wonder if this is the BBC trying to assassinate Clarkson.
Well there is a video of someone hand washing it at a show and parts falling off. This thing is a piece of cardboard.
Every body complaining about a drive train, but it won’t be putting more torque than a full size ship or a enormous dump truck. There is things capable of holding all that power
Putting it to the road as usable power in the context of a sports car. Not rotating massive wheels like a dump truck or cranking a propeller like a ship. If it’s so easy/workaday why haven’t any of the big manufacturers ever attempted it?
True, but the gearbox in a large dump truck weighs more than this entire car. The only conventional transmission I know of that can handle torque levels similar to the claimed output of this car are built Turbo 400s, and clutchless drag racing transmissions (rated for 3000 horsepower in a 3600 pound vehicle on drag radials) and neither of those are even close to streetable.
Aww yiss. That part about the Venom… You spoke my mind. Veyron is built to do it in class and style. Venom is a like a 3d plastic printed gun.
So basically, the Venom is the future?
