The best engine swaps for classic Beetles #shortblogpost
Over the years, the VW Beetle has been quite the poster child for an affordable project car. And everybody knows that the ultimate part of a project car, is the engine swap! Here are, in my opinion, the best swaps for classic Beetles. These are small, compact, high HP engines perfect for the bug.
Subaru EJ257
Mazda 20B-REW
Mazda KF-ZE 2.0L V6
Honda K20Z1
Toyota 4-AGE Redtop
So there ya go! A few of my favorite engine swaps for the classic Bug. I hope you enjoyed it!
Signing off for now

Can’t beat an air cooled Porsche engine in my opinion, keeps its heart close to its roots. However, not the most affordable swap
true, and true again!
So true. That’d be quite a build
^This. Plus save those 4ages dor Toyotas. Really not worth swapping them in when they don’t have much power potential in the first place
no porsche engines?
Yeah… ik… they are kinda expensive tho…
Seconded on the Subie engine. MightyCarMods made it work, and very well at that
They did cut up half the car so you can indeed make it work, but I doubt its practical (the ej is a big heavy engine)
So true
I have seen 13B engines in one.
Why not a FA20. Same layout as the Beetle flat 4, yet cheaper than a EJ.
Only the sti ej’s are pricy. A wrx ej205 or 255 arent that expenisve (or just go for an n/a ej16 for next to nothing)
Basically communist
LAWL, you mean “Fascist” the Nazis were Fascist… they hated Communism.
Ah, but you forget that in a beach buggy, a rover v8 makes a beetle wheelie!
an 4g63t would be awesome
