THRUSTMASTER T300RS REVIEW

After a dreaded farewell to my Logitech Driving Force GT which served me for 4 fun years.I invested in a Thrustmaster T150 an ownership which was cut short due to a faulty power cable so I decided to give Thrustmaster a second chance and push the boat out a bit and get my orginal purchase a Thrustmaster T300RS.

To make this review a little different I have decided to use my previous two wheels(T150 and Logitech DFGT) to act as a benchmark for the T300 to compare or beat.

First Impressions

Unlike the T150 You had to assemble the T300 together the rim and wheel are separate.I enjoyed putting it together.I felt almost like an assassin putting his rifle together. I was pleased at the size of the rim and quality of the paddle shifters but the only problem was that the rim was the same size as the T150 and DFGT.It was tricky to readjust to using a wheel but it was worth the practice needed to get the best out of the wheel.I also coudnt help how responsive and smooth the force feedback was.Its also nice to not have the wheel fight you back like the DFGT.

Driving experience was similar to the T150 but it is slightly more refined and responsive.Driveclub is amazing as you would expect along with GT6 in driveclub like it does in GT6 and the crew but the crew’s force feedback seems to cut out and cut back in every now and then but that is a common problem.I also didn’t like how to wheel wouldn’t centre itself in Driveclub like in GT6,The Crew and more importantly real life! Either way there is a different experience for each game which is a double edged sword.I like the challenge but i don’t like adjusting myself to each game but it is fun to have a different experience for each game.The only thing missing is a manual shifter.

The T300’s weakest link.£250 for a wheel is way too much for me especially if you pay in euros.Happily I waited for a price drop and changes in the currency rates cough Brexit cough and i also had a voucher for amazon along with a deal with prime to get £50 off if I bought the wheel on a certain say so i only paid £160 for it.Unfortunately not everyone is as lucky and £250 is still a steep pill to swallow.Hell what i paid for is still steep in my book.The wheel is currently on sale off amazon for £225.I personally wouldn’t pay that much as i’m a frugal cheapskate but if you have neither of the two previous traits I say go for it

If I’m truly honest the pedals of the T150 were rubbish.Happily the T300’s is a big step up to the T150.It sadly isnt very grippy on flat surfaces like the T150’s but the feel is 300 times better(See what I did there) The pedals are metal rather than plastic and the brake pedal actually has some form of feel instead of the feeling of nothingness of the T150.They are still a little narrow in size but they are likeable.Another weaknesses is the lack of a clutch.

One of the biggest kinks in the T150’s armor was its build quality actually no it was the biggest kink.Anyway the T300 shows you where the money u paid has gone.The rim is metal instead of plastic, it doesn’t make a cracking plastic sound when the wheel turns.The USB is still fixed to the rim but the power cable is longer which is a bonus for me as i can now reach the closest power cord and I love how the cable is NOT fixed to the rim.I feel like Thrustmaster felt my pain and responded nicely.I don’t understand why they didn’t do it with the T150 but maybe they could add it to in a facelift like thing for wheel.

Like the T150, the options of 3 pedals and a manual stick shifter are there. However, there is a problem.The 3 pedals(T3PA) is a wallet shattering £75 and The shifter(TH8A) is a ball breaking £100! but the 3 way pedals aren’t really needed as the standard ones are good as it is but the shifter is still too much like i said before a cheaper shifter is needed.It’s a shame as most gamers are left out of having the opportunity to have a manual shifter amd 3 pedals.Fortunately there is a logitech to thrustmaster pedal connector which including the price of the pedals e.g G25,G27 is just as expensive as the T3PA.

So is the T300RS twice the wheel of the T150 like the price suggests?,well I can honestly say…umm yeah.The wheel is better than the T150 in every way possible say anything and the T300 probably has the T150 in its rearview.It is arguably the best wheel for PS4 right now despite this flaws.The wheel also gets firmware updates and with an app which you can download on the PC to adjust how the wheel works and how much it rotates(1080 being the max). The only downsides to the T300RS is the button layout,options,lack of manual shifter and the price of the wheel itself.So to end this review if you have the money to blow and the time to use this wheel go for it.The T300 is in a class of its own.If you find a better wheel than this buy it and let me know.
