#MeandMyObsession
The Nissan Skyline GTR R34: The Obsession that won't go away.

As petrolhead’s many of us have that one car that we have lusted after since day one, the car that we look at endlessly on the internet, the car that gets us weak at the knees everytime we look at it, the car that we one day aim to buy. During my time of being a CTzen I have very rarely spoken about my dream car the Nissan Skyline GTR R34 but after some consideration its come to my attention that my knowledge, passion and reasoning need to be heard. Now some of you may be thinking, ‘Oh for god sake not another fanboy’ well let me tell you something unlike many 12 year old’s I am not a fanboy what I am is a Skyline fanatic the difference is that I accept that the Skyline is not the greatest car on the planet and I actually love the car for what it is and not because of its association with NFS or Fast and Furious, so fellow CTzen’s lets get into it!

Warning this post contains feels and flashback’s into the 2000’s

The First Encounter

Now, lets go back to 2003 a time where my love affair with the Skyline really began and when people used Nokia’s as phones and not as weapons for self defence. So there’s a 3 (and a half) year old me sitting in the living room of a four bedroom house in London with my collection of Hot Wheels cars. Suddenly my brother switches the channel to a very familiar TV show that we all know and love, yes Top Gear in fact it happened to be a re run of episode 4 in the first series of Clarkson’s Top Gear. The main item for that episode as you guessed it was a Bayside Blue R34, which made me stop my heated Hot Wheels car chase and look up at the beautiful shape in front of me on a boxy and slightly discoloured screen, this ladies and gentlemen is what love at first sight feels like.

Learning About the Beast

Now we fast forward to 2005 when I actually learned to use a primitive version of the internet, my obsession with cars had grown and grown further and finally I was able to learn about that beautiful blue shape that I had seen. I had learn’t all the facts (Or so I thought) 276BHP, RB26 DETT and AWD I had no idea what these term’s mean’t but knowledge is power and in the primary school playground I felt like a total B to the O to the double SS. Furthermore, the R34 was deemed as the ultimate Skyline with Nissan taking on board the criticism’s of the R30, R31, R32 and R33 (Mainly the R32 and R33) to create the perfect Skyline a series of cars I loved and respected even more as I learn’t about them.

Temptations

Now, when you suddenly adore a car just by looking at it their are bound to be some fault’s, now the R34 is not the most powerful car nor the fastest and it sure as hell ain’t the prettiest but I still love it. But over the years I have tried many different cars to shake my obsession with the Skyline no matter how superior to the R34 they were, the Skyline still won me over. I tried everything from the equally loved R35 GTR to the the 1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda (Yes I even tried a muscle car… That’s like sooooo not me!). The most prolific car was the GTR but that was before I was socially aware about the cars online reputation which made me run back to my equally loved Skyline. The truth is let no car stand between you and your dream car, unless you change your mind on what your dream car is…. awkward

The End

So now you know the story of me and my obsession with the R34, the truth is no other car can and ever will steal my heart like the R34 did for me it always will be the Nissan Skyline R34. Now I’m going to look at R34 prices in England… and then cry profusely.

Whats your favourite car? Do you have a story behind it? Make sure that you create a post with the #MeandMyObsession tag and don’t forget to explain why!

Thanks. Just did a 400Km round trip - heaps of fun, except it got tail-happy in a few of the worst places.

For me as long as it says Skyline on the back I’m happy, although if it was a R34 I’d be even happier!

Heyo there. For me it is everything rotary and especially the FD RX7. I was a massive player of GT4 and when scanning through the dealership I laid eyes upon the Spirit R (by far one of the coolest names given to a car). It was love at first sight.

I have to admit the Spirit R FD looks pretty mean!

For me it’s the 240Z because of how good it looks, how great it performs, it’s racing history, and it was made to be a cheap sports car for the masses. It also started a bunch of Japanese sports cars and without it maybe most of today’s JDM legends won’t exist
