Going with the Wind - Renault Wind - #Blogpost by Roadster (Otaku)

The Renault Wind is a two seater convertible roadster. But, the Wind was originally a concept unveiled on September 2004 at the Paris Motor Show as a 2+1 roadster. It had a 136hp inline 4 engine, but stats are unknown since Renault never released those

Five and a half years later, Renault announced that the Wind would enter production. It was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on March 2, 2010. The production version is a 2 seater, as opposed to the 2+1 seating of the concept. Also, the car was heavily based on the Twingo, which can be easily noticed in size, and door handles. The Wind got a one-piece metal roof which rotates 180 degrees, and folds into the trunk lid. Rotating this roof takes 12 seconds, which makes it faster than its multi-piece counterparts.

Power comes from either a 1.2 TCe or a 1.6 engine, having 99bhp and 131bhp respectively. This power goes through a 5 speed manual gearbox. This propels the 1206 kg (200kg heavier than the Twingo) car to 100kmph in 10.5 seconds for the 1.2 TCe, and 9.2 seconds for the 1.6 litre engine.

In February 2012, Renault retired the Wind, together with the Espace, Kangoo, Modus and Laguna in the United Kingdom. For the rest of Europe, the Wind remained available until June 2013.

Should say that it is coming dangerously close to the Smart Roadster in terms of my favourite car

Sadly, a bit crap in reality. The slowest engine Renault do (albeit with a turbo added), with a heavy body due to the roof, nowhere near as practical as the Twingo it’s based on, and for some reason are more than twice the price.
They were a commercial flop for Renault, they were trying too hard to copy the Vauxhall/Opel Tigra, but forgot that the trend for cheap, FWD roadsters based on regular hatchbacks has died out.
I personally believe they should have waited a few years and made it electric, with the drive train from the Zoe, as a cheaper equivalent of the Tesla Roadster

Because it’s a Twingo in disguise? You can’t hate Twingos, even if they’re in disguise
