My Review of DriveTribe: Is it Any Good? #BlogPost
When the old Top Gear trio announced their website “DriveTribe”, it recieved mixed responses from all of us on CT. Some of you said you were jumping ship, and others called it out for “lying” about its claim as the first social site for petrol heads.
I’ve been using Drive Tribe for the last 4 days, and feel that I can properly tell you guys what DriveTribe is all about.
The Layout
The DriveTribe user interface is extremely slick and easy to use. Your main feed consists of posts from the 7 “tribes” you choose join when you create your account. Once there, you can easily search or browse other tribes to join for more content. Tribes are rated by “bumps”(or likes) per day, which indicates how often you will find content from that source. You have a simple logo to click when you wish to return to your main feed, and an alerts tab for any notifications.
The Big Feature: User Created Tribes
I initially thought that this would be a hectic idea, where you would see 5 photography tribes all with the same content. However, the execution of this feature (with the current set up for DriveTribe), is great. You can start a Tribe, but when you do it is only visible on your profile, and nowhere else. To officially create a tribe, you need to recruit/invite 10 other users, an from there generate content and hope that the tribe members also do their share. This feature encourages users to interact and reach out to others.
I myself have attempted to create a Tribe, and it isn’t done by spamming invites to random users. This ensures that only legitimate tribes can be created and maintained by actual interested users.
The Content
The content you find on DriveTribe is entirely dependent on what tribes you join. For instance, I follow the driving roads Tribe, e-garage, classic racers, Dogs in cars (DIC), and others. These tribes contain content created strictly by users. Tribes like e garage create premium content for car enthusiasts, and it’s a nice change of pace compared to the overflow of memes.
My favorite Tribe would be “The Perfect Roads”. All these users own cars, enjoy driving, and share fun spots they’ve driven to. Users find others that have driven the same roads and have “conversations”. It’s truly great.
What do "The Trio" do?
They post shenanigans from their lives, and some tid bit updates on The Grand Tour.
The Demographic
The demographic is again dependent on which tribes you follow. There are the “fan club” tribes, then there are the more mature tribes, and I love that aspect. I do imagine that the immature audience will come on the official launch, but you don’t have to see their content.
In the end, DriveTribe has a lot of potential. I have definitely been enjoying the website and its content, and look forward to what the future will bring. Save the date for the November 28th launch!
Comments
This will be good :D
I think they should make it so that you don’t have to sign up with facebook
CT 3.0 had better be around the corner or i might have to check out DriveTribe
I may have to switch to Drive Tribe if CT doesn’t get any better. Too many little kids on here (no offense)
Read the article I made about DriveTribe, it may be a scam.
https://www.carthrottle.com/post/nko3x73/
to be fair there are plenty of younger users on here (like me) who are pretty intelligent and like to have normal conversations
and not talk about mustangs and crowds cause those jokes are getting pretty stale
I’m curious, how does the profile system work? Because if it provides a direct link to my Facebook I won’t be a happy mutant.
The Facebook profile only uses your name. Otherwise, you have the option to enter a short bio.
meh. still wont replace ct, ct wil be like a facebook to drivetribe, drivetribe being twitter or intagram.
Good article. The quotations around the word “conversations” made me snicker.
Is it on Android?
It’s a website.
Is it just me or do I only get posts from Jeremy, Richard and James. I do follow a lot of tribes though.
Is there an app for it because I’m not gonna use just a website.
