I need help. I wanted to replace my MK4 Navigation system (BM54) with an android device. Because i have a Harman Kardon System it didnt work. Does anyone have a solution for this? Do i have to cut an switch cables? I bought every extra possible...
Which type of connector do you have on your original radio, the one with round pins or flat pins? I can take a look and see which pin exactly needs to be connected for a HiFi amp to power up. There is a signal line which needs to be provided to switched 12V, on a connector with round pins that should be the pin 16. You can also try to figure yourself what pin that is on the connector with flat pins based on this info.
I have the quadlock connector as seeb on the photos. What do i have to do to get the harman kardon system working?
I employ you to triple check your wires, which wires are +12V constant, +12V switched and so on. Any false connection may result in a lot of smoke and blown fuses or even melted wiring harness. Note that supply voltage in car can be slightly higher or slightly lower than 12V (10-14V is the usual range), so this is not suspicious.
Pin 15 should provide 12V at all times, without key in the ignition. Pin 16 should provide 12V only when key is turned, be it in position 1 or 2. Check if that is so. Check if you have any voltage on pin 13 -> there should not be any in any key position.
Pull the key from ignition. Now connect original radio, but with radio pulled out, you will need access to the back of the connector. Measure voltage on pin 13 with radio turned on and playing some music. If it provides 12V, you have successfully identified your “turn on wire” for the amp.
Now, connect your android radio, so you have access to the cable bundle. Measure pin 13 when you are playing some music from your new radio. If there is no voltage provided, you have found the problem.
Solution would be to connect 12V switched line from pin 16 directly to pin 13.
If everything looks good, but you still don’t have sound, I would recommend getting help from somebody more experienced :)
Ive done the same thing yesterday. I had the oem 2 din with harman kardon and replaced it for a eonon ga8150. You plug the long cable on the bm54 module and the other end in the cable that was in the bm54 module. The other side of the cable goes in you radio. Its realy simple.
