5 Things I already hate about the BMW X2

1. The Rear End

Having just watched the latest episode of The Grand Tour, I think we can all agree that the BMW X2 will be a solid contender for the 2018 ‘Hard Ass To Follow’ NIGEL award.
I mean look at it! Everything from the rear window down is just a mix match of body panels and bumper lines, not to mention the badges look like stuck on Halfords items.

2. It's an X1 / 1Series crossover no-one asked for

Here’s the deal. If you want a small, xDrive BMW in Europe, you’d buy a 1series xDrive. If you want a small BMW SUV, you buy an X1. So where’s the market for this car? There isn’t when you think about it. All bases are covered already.

3. It's incredible expensive

Mid-way through 2017, I bought myself a brand new BMW M140i, for a tick under 40,000 of my hard earned British Pounds. It features a 3.0L TwinScroll Turbo engine, with lots of toys, and optional extras.
The BMW X2 in M-Sport trim, with no optional extras costs pretty much the same. So why would you want a less powerful, similar sized car, with less options on it? More bad marks for the X2 then…

4. It has stupid badge placement

What the hell were they thinking, putting the BMW badge on the C Pillar?

5. It has a pointless trim level - X2 'X Model'

First of all this confused me, as the X2 is already xDrive, so what does the ‘X Model’ add? I actually looked into it, and it turns out, for £800 more, you can have the plastic bumper trim painted in silver.

That’s it, a whole new trim level, for some silver bumper inserts.

I’m totally lost with this car, it’s been built for a market that seemingly doesn’t exist, it’s expensive, it looks awful and it has stupid trim levels.

But we all know it’ll sell very well for an unfathomable reason, and it’ll be coming too close in a rear view mirror near you very soon.

I think the i8 has a 3 cylinder engine. And everyone wants to buy these sort of SUV’s right now, don’t ask me why. And a supercar would be pretty cool.

Firstly, all new BMWs are expensive. Secondly, everyone has his own taste so there might be people who really like this car (I’m not one of them). The last thing I need to mention is that you don’t seem to know much about the market because SUVs and crossovers are all over the place, especially in Germany and I think there’ll be a market for this, I mean all other European brands are doing the same. Even Lamborghini has a new SUV.

Yes, but BMW already has a selection of crossover SUVs, which tick all of the boxes this does, for not really much more. For the extra money, you could get a much larger, much better equipped X4… Not all new BMWs are expensive either. A new 1 series 120d is very reasonable.

If that’s what the future holds for the 1-series…. dear God.
We’ll get an M version of this too, inevitably.

Um, I actually kinda like the looks of this thing… In my opinion it’s one of the best looking new BMW SUVs there is right now. Still, the badging is ridiculous

Oh no, BMW, what are you doing?
Seriously, I don’t understand what is the point of this.
Do you want a small, quick car? You get a 3-series or 1-series. Do you want a bigger car? You get a 5-series or a 7-series. Do you want an SUV? Then you get an X5! Smaller SUV? There is the X3!
Why the f do we need these…mish mashes of vehicles? Saddly, people actually buy those and it is profitable but it looks ugly and makes no sense.

To my understanding the c pillar badge is to honour the old bmws like the pictured e9. Its still stupid and just insulting to one of the best bmws ever made.

By all means do it on the 4 or 2 series but not on the X2!

WAIT A MINUTE X1 / 1Series crossover but isn’t the x1 just a 1 series crossover already ?

No it’s a small X3, which is a 3 series crossed with a 1 series crossed with an x3, that was crossed with an x5

I just don’t get the SUV coupe obsession. The X1 isn’t really that much bigger than the 1-series and I don’t see much reason for it to exist, so why does the X2 exist?!? As for the price, it is extremely expensive, but in your case that might be partly because the M140i is very affordable for what it is - it’s more car than a Golf R or Civic Type R and while it isn’t as quick as an A45 or RS3, it does have a straight-six.
