Engineering Explained
  1. The VW GTI weighs significantly less, up to 250 lbs depending on trim.

  2. The GTI has 50 lb-ft more torque (with the same peak HP), and reaches it in lower RPM.

  3. The GTI gets better fuel economy.

  4. The GTI has more rear legroom (useable rear seats), and way (way) more cargo space.

  5. The GTI starts $600 less. Wait, it’s better in every way and cheaper!?

The new beetles make no sense, they were supposed to be cheap cars that anyone could buy, now they’re cars that make people buy an old beetle after seeing how expensive the new ones are.

Look at Fiat 500. It’s everything but cheap and it’s extremely successful anyway.

Many continue to love the “people’s Car” of the old because it is SIMPLE, RAW, CHEAP and DURABLE. The new “RETRO PEOPLE’S CAR” does not meet the original design and purpose but has gone opposite to become- COMPLICATED, ENHANCED, EXPENSIVE and ELECTRONIC. Make it a RETRO-LOOK but offer in not so complicated and expensive for the buying capacity of the common people; probably make sense.
