Blyton Park - For Beginners

Blyton park is a hidden treasure and great if you’re looking at doing your first track day. Although I am lucky to live on the doorstep of thr likes of Donnington and Cadwell, Blyton is my closest track and is cheaper, safer and quieter. Perfect for those people looking at their first day.

There are no blind corners at Blyton, there are no elevation changes, there are fewer fast cars and if you do mess up there are few parts of the track where you’re surrounded by barriers. While the untended runway does provide large safe run off zones they do have some potholes which could potentially fo damage. That said, in comparison to Cadwell (a.k.a the mini ring) you’re in a much safer place.

The corners, although lacking in elevation change, are both varied and technical. For someone not used to driving on a track each corner can be treated as a seperate puzzle and due to the open nature of the track nothing is going to sneak up on you. Thr Wriggler will provide the most challengr. It’s a tight chicane following “lancaster”, a long high speed lefthander which unsettles your car. You’re breaking hard and trying your maintain your momentum and it’s easy to push it too hard. A lot of people spin here but they or their cars rarely come to much harm. There’s a nice flat expanse of grass to catch you. Great to test yout limits.

You can drive supercars for as little as £30. You’ll have a racing driver with you telling you when to brake but you’ll be needing it! Blyton also has a driver training school if you want to get serious or 15 or 20 minute instructor sessions are available from most track day providers.

Yeah it’s just chilled out. You get the odd car club tearing it up like boy racers but normally a sound bet to put a car through it’s paces. Maybe a little small for your mustang though. You’re going to want a big straight!

Nice! It is small but good to avoid the big tracks sometimes.

Did my first UK trackday there and snapped my lip at the Wiggler, back in the days before it was tarmac. Great little circuit and unbeatable value.
