BMW-Karmann Asso di Quadri #blogspot

1976
Karmann ask Italdesign to create a new coupe concept, inspired by their first collaboration with the Audi-Karmann Asso di Piche 3 years before. This time, it was for BMW and it had to be realist for production. The concept in question had to be, like all Italdesign “As”-concepts, a 3-door coupe.

Giugaro create this car; which is very interesting in term of design. We can clearly see some M1 in it; especially at the back. Also, Giugaro used this car to explore new lines which would lend some years later to the second generation Scirocco.

In term of drivetrain, it is a BMW 320i under it.

Woah this is interesting. So in a way… the Scirocco is basically inspired from the BMW M1… Who would’ve known :D

I recently saw it at a Classic Car Show, repainted silver.
They credited it as a design-influence for the BMW M1
