Can someone explain the difference between drifting in 1st gear as opposed to 2nd gear (or 3rd). I know in video games that it has to do with power bands and torque to keep the wheels spinning based on the speed and length of the drift.

Any real world applications? For burnouts and donuts people to say to always start in 1st gear. What about a proper drift entry?
