Honda civic EP2 short review

Ok so the civic is well known as your typical ricer and is mugged off on every post by carthrottle, generally by kids who don’t actually even own a car.

So my civic ep2 1.6 is my second car after my 1.4 Renault clio which served well. Immediately when you sit in the civic you feel like your are sitting in something that has been put well together from the tight leather steering wheel, to the hard accelerator pedal which actually has some weight to it and just adds to the driving experience.

The gear stick is tight and slighty notchy which is a good thing, it is also near the steering wheel and has a very short throw allowing for lightening quick shifts, and eventhough the engine is only a small 1.6l sohc vtec engine with 110hp it actually moves at a decent pace. The beauty about these engines is not just their reliability or their willingness to rev, they also don’t lose that much hp as many others do. I have seen other ep2s with 90k miles on the clock and still produce 108 hp on the dyno with no mods - now that is impressive.

Handling is excellant considering this is not even the type r although the suspension is a little too soft, but nothing coilovers cant help. Body roll is also minimal and quite impressive taking into account how soft the ride is.

To conclude I would say if you are young and can’t get insured on many other big engined cars you have to buy a civic, it is such a fun car and is so affordable, they also look great with the sport trim…. just don’t rice it … Please :)

Thanks

Thanks for the review! I love the EP3 (Type R) but it’s nice to know that the EP2 is a good car too. If I had a EP2 I would put a Type R spoiler, I think it looks much better :p

Decent review. However, while I agree with most of your points, I have to say that my one is completely stock, and in terms of ride quality, its comparable to a BMX bike.

But this is the EP2, not the EP3 (the EP3 is the Type R)

I’m glad I could. The US spec ep3 is not a type r but it’s has a 180hp dohc vtec engine I believe. The euro spec ep3 is a type r. Either way they are both very similar to the ep2 but faster and better ; )

I have the ep3 version..very nice cars get laughed at alot more than they deserve by far…the gearstick on them is awesome, when i first seen it i thought it would be strange but actually pretty comfortable and as you said short distance from steering wheel for very quick shifts and once you are used to it driving a car with the gearstick in the more normal place just feels awkward. Glad you are enjoying yoir car mate make the most ofit
