I took my front bumper cover off, to see why the bumper was "loose."

The car has been damaged. The bumper bar is bent. It's consistent with damage caused by hitting a rock. Someone crashed my WRX before I got it. Frame not bent/cracked.

Cool, I didn’t know melons was from ontario….. I too would be interested to know the dealer. Also have you been in touch with CAMVAP? Also Subaru directly (if you purchased from a Subaru dealer)

Also from the pictures that’s a pretty decent impact

The dealer is a used car dealer from Milton. I will be in contact with the CAMVAP or Ministry of Labour, or Ministry of Colleges & Training. Or all three.

Melons is basically the guardian and spokesman of all car lovers in Ontario, I can proudly say that. Atleast, in my eyes.

That sucks. I don’t mean to rub it in at all, but how did it manage to get safetied in that state?

The shop who did the safety is "aligned" with the shop who sold it. The owners of both establishments are brothers. Grey market fun!

I will be ending this "teamwork" crap by revoking the license of the shop that did the safety.

Thats awful, man. Its mechanics like that that give us all a bad name. I know its a simple fix, but its really the principle here. I know I would be pissed.

It really is. Thanks, I appreciate this comment right now. I’m glad to hear more stories from proper mechanics.

This is why I wouldn’t ever buy a used WRX, owners spank the Hell out of them and you never know what might have happened.

"Owners spank the hell out of them"

Guilty. This is why I buy the ones that have high performance but lower costs. I plan on replacing a lot of things anyways. I refer you to the comments about why I am actually grumpy about this - it is the shoddy safety inspection that bothers me most.

If you had to take the bumper cover off to find the damage, how is the inspector supposed to see the damage? I do understand where you’re coming from, but I also think you’re blowing it a bit out of proportion, only considering the how minor the damage is. But if you suspect the inspector knew about this to begin with, as you mention the owners are brothers, then he should at least have said something.

The dealership in question is known for doing shady things and buying salvage title cars and "fix" them up to resell. It’s not the only one like it either, a dealer I know in the Vaughn area does the same kinda thing..

Legally, safety inspectors are required to remove the bumper cover to check.

Regarding the proportions I’m blowing, I think the idea is the principle. The safety inspector cannot cut any corners. It is not okay. What proof is there, the vehicle was inspected at all?

Many car dealers are legitimate. Just have it inspected by a mechanic you trust

No. It is a years old nickname. The story is legitimately quite long. I posted it a while back.

Sorry to hear dude, I love your car. You know I do.

By someone, do you mean the previous buyer, or just bringing it in for an inspection or something of the sort?

By "someone", I forfeit the ability to speculate. It would all be speculation, and I won’t point fingers. I don’t much care who it was or how it happened. Someone hit a rock, pole or otherwise something which was small and only affected one part of the bumper bar. There won’t be a police report - there is no claim listed on insurance. I could legally sell the car as a no-accident survivor car, according to the government, which knows nothing to prove otherwise.

Dude, you know I wish you the best of luck with buying a car. Know the laws before you buy your car, if it isn’t too late. You can make a better decision and be more well informed.

Start with highway traffic act (duh, to get your license), then insurance and so on… Trust me, it helped me a lot already.

The laws must be way different in BC as it’s not necessary to remove the bumper to check the beam here. Seems like a huge pain in the ass, especially with older cars that have..err..DIY bumper fasteners. By your standards my car would be a deathtrap lol.

Hahaha, reassuring! I feel like you need a rollcage and four point harness - for safety, of course, and not because race car
