"Illegal" Cars That I Want So Badly

We all know that America is a stupid country when it comes to vehicle laws, most recently, we heard that the EPA is planning to ban vehicle modifications. Not only that, you can’t import a non-US spec car unless they’re 25 years old or more thanks to Mercedes-Benz USA. I really want to move to somewhere like UK just because of the fact that I don’t have to wait a quarter of a century to legally import a car. In this article, I will be telling you about the cars that I really want, and also how old I will be when those cars become legal (FYI, at the time I write this article, I’m 29 years old)

Nissan Skyline GT-R (BNR/BCNR33) - When I am 35

Before the kids yell “Why not the R34? They’re DA BEST CAR EVER”, let me say that I’m not a fan of the R34 generation of the Skyline. The R33 is way more beautiful in my opinion. Let me say it again:

...in my opinion.

It looks like it has more soul than the R34 (I’m not saying that the R34 is soul-less), it looks more artful than any other Skylines in my opinion. Not to mention the beautiful RB engine that makes more than 300hp. That’s a high horsepower for a 1990’s sports coupe. It’s a shame that I have to wait until the year 2021 to get one legally, and by that time, I’m 35 years old.

BMW M3 GTS - When I am 50

It’s a sad, sad fact that I have to wait until the M3 GTS to turn 25 years old and even worse, I’ll be 50 years old when this car becomes legal. This car is probably the only car that BMW made that can compete with high-end track cars such as the Porsche 911 GT3. The car is powered by the S65B44 4.4-liter V8 based on the 4.0-liter engine found in the standard M3, which produces a maximum of 444 hp. The car weighs 300 pounds less than the standard M3 due to various weight savings. A total of only 135 were sent out to customers. This version of the M3 could accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 4.3 seconds and 0-100 mph in 8.5 seconds. The BMW E92 M3 GTS was priced at around €115,000 per unit. You know, the car also has roll hoops, fire extinguisher, AC delete, a big rear wing and a splitter and let’s face it, this isn’t the car for a 50-year old, is it? Yeah, unfortunately, by the time this car is legal, I’m at a granddad age.

VW Scirocco Mk3 - When I am 47

This. The most fun VW car? Could be. Have I driven it? Yes. In Indonesia (where vehicle imports taxes is higher than the Burj Khalifa tower), my friend let me drive his Scirocco R and I must say, I fell in love with it as much as Jason Cammisa does (he’s a Scirocco lover too). The Scirocco R is a production model based on the GT24. Its 2.0 L FSI engine is rated 261 hp at 6,000 rpm and 258 lb·ft at 2,500 rpm, it has a large air intake openings in the front bumper, an integrated front spoiler, bi-xenon headlights, larger rear roof edge spoiler, black diffuser, dual exhaust with chrome tailpipes, Talladega 18-inch alloy wheels, and a bunch of other stuff. The Scirocco would be awesome and if they were legal here, I’m pretty sure I’d bought that and not my R32 or my ZCP. Unfortunately, I have to wait until I turn 47 years old and people that age should just be driving S-Classes or not driving at all.

BMW M5 Touring - When I'm 46

C’mon, a V10 wagon. A naturally aspirated V10 wagon, what else do I have to say?

C63 507 Wagon - When I turn 47

Same reasons as above. But it’s a V8, not a V10.

I could go on and on and on and on listing the cars that I want so bad but illegal in the US but because I don’t have much time in writing this article so, yeah, I apologize for the short article but let me know in the comments, what car that you want so bad, you crave for it, but it is illegal in the US?

I do love my R32, great car, way better than expected. E46s aren’t the greatest first car choices but still, it’s good

Say thank you to dealers of America. They know that they would be outsold, that’s why they banned them

Um…the GTS only came with DCT. That might’ve been a tuned M3.

The rule is if a car was never sold in the US then it has to be 25 years old to be legal to import. Up here in Canada we only have to wait 15 years.
