The Pontiac GTP: The Sleeper You Might've Never Heard Of
Who doesn’t love a good sleeper? Here’s one you may not have known about:
The Pontiac GTP
This may look like your everyday Pontiac Grand Prix; and that’s because it is. It’s a full size, front wheel drive sedan with 4 doors and 6 cylinders. However, there’s one major difference between the Grand Prix and the GTP, and that’s the M90 supercharger that sits on top of this GM 3.8L. This car puts out a more than sufficient 240hp and 280 ft lbs of torque in stock form.
While the car may be a bit heavy, it’s important to keep in mind that it’s boost is immediate, and it’s capacity is easily improved. With a mod as simple as changing out a pulley, the car can easily gain an additional 20-25 horsepower over factory. With proper mods, the engine is capable of big power on the stock bottom end:
The largest downside to this platform is the transmission, as it was only offered with an automatic. However, considering this Grand Prix can be had for under $2,000 USD, it’s a trade-off some may be willing to make, and a car you may just have to watch out for!
